Subject: Duathlon - go sockless?
I have a duathlon coming up in about 10 days. It will probably be around 50-55 degrees at the start of the race. I usually race sockless, but since I don't have to deal with a wetsuit or wet feet is there any reason to do so in a duathlon?

The only reason I'm thinking of going sockless is that it could be a pain running in socks in the transition areas, especially if the ground is wet. I always rubber-band my shoes up for T1.

I also sprained my ankle last week and will probably have my ankle wrapped for the race.

Any ideas?

there is no swimming involved which is the reason for sockless racing in tris.  But if you want to it shouldn;t be a problem.  Just remember if you lube your shoes when running sockless there will be little or no lube in the shoes for run #2.

I did 2 duathlons this year and did both sockless.

I don't see any reason to wear socks. if you have a specific reason to wear them, they should work just fine.

I too didn't want to run in socks. It's just easier barefoot. BTW, I also train sockless 90% of the time.

i race them without, but i also dont wear socks in any training outside of when its too cold not too, and that includes all my running (i ran most of an ultra this past weekend sockless and was fine).

Either way you go, some baby powder in the shoes helps them slide on and off quickly, and enough should be left over for the 2nd run (put in enough you have to shake them out, and it will coat the whole inside).
