Pre-race routine:

Woke up, ate oatmeal and got on the road! Got to the race about 90min early, got the bike ready and setup in transition and then just chilled and socialized.
Event warmup:

Only ran about 2 miles for a WU. A few pickups just to get the blood flowing.
Run
  • 11m 23s
  • 2 miles
  • 05m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good and just pushed through the pain. Was just barely getting warmed up by the time 2 miles was done!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

Mediocre time here.
What would you do differently?:

Practice. My routine was solid, but not streamlined.
Bike
  • 25m 8s
  • 10 miles
  • 23.87 mile/hr
Comments:

I really pushed hard on this bike without any regard for how my legs would react on the last run. I still feel like I could have laid it out there just a tiny bit more, but overall this was a good effort.
What would you do differently?:

Keep my effort up. I dipped down a bit in the middle due to lack of focus.
Transition 2
  • 00m 28s
Comments:

Had trouble getting my foot out of my right shoe while riding and I almost lost the shoe on the course as it came unclipped as I was removing my foot.
Run
  • 11m 52s
  • 2 miles
  • 05m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I thought my legs were going to cramp up on the first quarter mile, but it worked itself out as I ran. This was a very painful run. At about mile 1.25, I passed a guy in my AG and he ran on my heels the rest of the way in. Even worse, he had fans on the course cheering for him to run me down. This really helped me keep my pace up and I ended up beating him by 12 seconds, but it was very painful.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran another couple of miles nice and easy.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much run training and very little training at these types of intensities. Still, results were good.

Phew. For a moment there I was afraid to click on this thread because of the title

SUPER JOB on a great race and great placement. I do hear the second run is supposed to suck really badly and you sucked it up and made it hurt.

Thanks!

The second run hurts, but I figure if it's hurting for me, it has to be hurting for everyone else too!
