Pre-race routine:

Arrived night before to drive the bike and run course. Woke up at 5A, finished getting things together, had Clif bar and some water (normal) and was on the way by 5:45A. Arrived at site by 6:10A.

This was not an "A" race and my longest to date, after a mini and a Sprint. My goal was to take it like a training day; race at my pace and enjoy myself.
Event warmup:

Set up transition; ride the run course; swim a couple of hundred meters to get comfortable. Hang out in water until start - about 20 minutes.

TIMES LISTED ARE MY TIMES; Official times were screwed up by weather and computer problems; total time is official others are not.
Swim
  • 29m 49s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

My goal was to swim a comfortable, easy pace, consistent with what I normally swim in the pool training. Except for a few sidestrokes/breastrokes to get out of the way of someone, or catch a breath, I was happy with the swim, though I am still way slow.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, except more time in the pool
Transition 1
  • 02m 45s
Comments:

Besides being too long; it was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Run with bike. I have to get some tri bike shoes, my road shoes take to much time to get on.
Bike
  • 1h 26m 33s
  • 22 miles
  • 15.25 mile/hr
Comments:

A pretty comfortable ride, though it took more out of me than I expected when I got to the run course.
What would you do differently?:

My average speed was lower than normal, and I think it must have been due to more hills than I normall train on...so train on more hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Rip stuff off, throw stuff on and go.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 1h 17m 33s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 12m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Since my goal was to run like a training run, since my HR kept spiking, I had to walk much more than planned.
What would you do differently?:

Run more; more bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much; Accelerade, banana, some cookies, water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. My longest training period to date was less than 3 hours, and that was all bike, so I don't think I was physically prepared to do significantly better.

7 weeks to prepare for "A" race of season, another OLY, so I think I'll be much better prepared for that.

Event comments:

Overall, I was a little disappointed with my time, though I did race my race, and it was comfortable and easy. I wasn't DFL, but not far from it. If anything I was disappointed in the run. Have to spend more time running.

Did you get rained on yesterday? There were strong scattered showers around the city. Was thinking about the race as I was driving in it.

Yeah, it rained off and on; pouring a couple of times; dripping, drizzling others.  Lots of fun cruising down a 2 mile hill in the pouring rain, with a 90 degree turn at the bottom.  Pretty interesting really, it made me much more conservative in how I rode.

You did well too. I really love this distance, but the bike was really dangerous with the rain and everything. Someone almost died on that last big hill before we turned back into the park. There were 4 of us all together and we were going like 40-45 mph and one guy didn't see the pot hole and had to swerve at the last second. Scary...
