So just figured I would let anyone who is interested.

Trisports.com has the watch on sale for 249.95.  If you use the discount code "SCARE-E", you get another 25% off.  And also, timex is doing a $50 mail in rebate right now.  So you can get yourself a sweet GPS, power-enabled watch for $137ish.  That's not damn bad.  Only about $215 cheaper than a 310XT.

I didn't buy the global trainer, but I did end up getting a new pair of tri shoes which I had my eye on for several months.

I tried to see what would happen if I threw in a pair of zoot tri shorts that were on sale...and I only got 25% off the shoes since they were regular price...no added discount for the shorts...so I removed them from my order.

Dang, that is such a good deal!  M  u  s  t     r    e   s   i   s   t......

I saw this in a tri mag recently and while it looks really cool, I decided I didn't need it.  I like to keep my training simple.  I bought a HR monitor on time  years ago...I used it twice and said, "hmmmph, so that's my HR", thru the thing in a drawer where it's been ever since.

But this is really a great deal.....

Ever hear the story of the guy who could not refuse a bargain?  Someone offered him an elephant fot $1000.  He said no, he did not need an elephant, did not know how to care for an elephant and had no place to keep the elephant.  They salesmen then said, "How about 2 elephants for $500?!"  And the guy said, "I'll take 4!!".

Shoot...hope it worked for everyone.  Not sure if it's still going or not.  A buddy of mine has been training with the watch for a couple months now and still loves it.  I also figured that the 310XT isn't really worth 210 more than this one.  Interface is pretty cool too (similar to garmin, but more easy to navigate).

so with the 50 dollar rebate it is an even better deal!  I ordered the HR model, which with shipping was 239.66, with the rebate it will be 189.66  Cool

What makes this a better deal than the Garmin 305 with heart rate monitor for $144.00 on Amazon.com.  I am in the market,  and have had my eye on this for a while, but have settled on the 305.  getting it for $189 is making me reconsider although I am not sure how much more bang for the buck I will see?

a friend of mine has a 305 and the only complaint he has is the heart rate is small and hard to read while running, its a very small font in the top right corner of the display

timex and garmin 310xt are multi sport gps watches.

305 is a gps watch.

difference is you can use the 310 and timex in the swim.  they also work with power.

Tell your friend he can customize his display..... You can display from 1 to 4 data fields on the face of the watch at any time. If he has the display set to show 4 fields, yes the HR will be kinda small. Set it to 2 or 3, and it will be quite easy to see. You can scroll between different screen displays as well, so he could display, for example, HR & pace one one screen, time and distance on another, and simply scroll between displays as he sees fit.

FYI...you can customize displays on the Garmin 305, showing from 1 to 4 data fields and scroll thru multiple displays.  For running I have one display set up with HR only which I use on recovery runs when I want to keep my HR low.  Tell your friend to check out the manual.
