It's Columbus! Expect an event similar to the one (HFP) announced in NJ. Big time triathlon returns to Columbus. Complete details will be out soon. Look for a press conference including city officials.

This is sorta frustrating....I take my tax return and sign up for all my races in one big bang.  I would like to plan out my race calendar for 2011 and details would be super nice.  Just sayin'.

A half would be PERFECT that time of year around here! A little annoyed we have to wait more, especially since I kept refreshing my inbox on Thursday, but I guess we get to do it again next week!

Dude, it's really expensive for an HFP race. I guess because it has a prize purse, which is interesting...

So I have to find a way to get from downtown, back to my bike at campus, and then back to Alum Creek to get my truck?  And Pay $95 to do it?  I'll pass.  That sure was worth the wait.  Shame as I was wanting to do a Olympic right around that time.  Guess I'll have to look again.

which is why i will likely pass.

it is sad because i really would like to do another local race but 75 is past my price point for a sprint.

it truly is a rich man's sport

i am sure running it into the city jacked the price up as much as the prize purse did.  it requires more permits and more police.

odds are great they will have a shuttle BUT if there are glitches (there always are) it will be a hassel

I figured there would be some kind of shuttle, but I also figured it would be an all day endeavor when having to transport all of those bikes as well.  Seems like a lousy spectator race as well.  Not that most races are truly spectator friendly after the swim, but you can at least see the transitions and finish area.

I'm not sure how I feel about this race.

What helps me on a race is the people cheering...I think I would miss that on this race.

I would want to see course details before I signed on the dotted line.

This whole race seems a bit ill conceived. I understand they couldn't announce it until they got the permits etc, but this was rolled out pretty late in the season. I think most of us pick our A races and work backwards from there.

Also, I personally don't care for point to point bikes. I did one, and swore I'd never do another. The road going from T1 to T2 was clogged with cars going from the swim to the bike drop off and I had to wait to get my run gear (not long, but still).

Sorry to get down on this race, and hopefully I'm wrong and everything comes off without a hitch but I'll not be there to find out.

The cost is a little high for an Olympic distance but there is more swag in the bag (according to the website) and it is in a major metro city - check out the prices for the NYC tri or Chicago. I do the Sylvania Tri in Toledo each year and it is 85$ (It also has a beer truck, catered lunch from bravo and great spread of post race food, massage and is right across from my high school - Cougar Pride!)
I probably wont participate because of the point to point. I would have to be in town the day before for the bike drop off (meaning I have to crash at someones pad or hotel) and the LATEST I can drop off stuff for T2 is 6 AM? I would have to get up in the 4 Am area just to drive to T2 - lay down some shoes, find a place to park my car and shuttle (in addition to multiple potty breaks somewhere if tradition holds to form). The website says they expect 1500 athletes. If human nature holds true then you will have about 1000 athletes waiting to catch the 6 AM shuttle to swim. 50 people to a bus crammed in with wetsuits means 20 buses. That sounds like a logistical logjam.
It is a different kind of race from the normal HFP races I do.  I will probably do 4-6 HFP races this year but this one wont be in my mix.

in past years if you sign up for 3 or 4 you get a free pair of running shoes worth 90 bucks.

june 26 olympic

That's what I'm leaning towards.  It just fits better with my schedule.  They have you on 36/37 though.  SCARY!  (even though I know a lane will be blocked off.)
