2 weeks!!

Just did my last long run (14 miles); 100 mile ride tomorrow (training for IMKY, too), then a (much needed...lol) recovery week, followed by a lower intensity week leading up to Muncie.

Everybody ready!?!

I've hit "as ready as I can be" mode.  Now it's all about nailing the taper.

I noticed with some dismay I'm in the second to last swim wave.  Excellent.  The bike course will nice and crowded!

yeah... no doubt.  I'm in the last wave of the swim.  At least it should make it easy to find the bike  Smile

Sunday was the last long day. Less than 2 weeks left. Can't wait. First 1/2 in 2 years due to injury. Is anyone else camping?

I'm camping, Mike, at Prairie Creek - sites 144 and 145 on a hill overlooking the lake. I'm at the quiet end of the campground. Feel free to stop in and say hi. I'm getting very excited for the race. I did it last year and had a blast. I don't care if my finish time is longer - my goal is to race it smarter. We'll see in 12 days!

I spoke with the race director yesterday and he told teh bike course wont be using the Greenway but instead going all the to Highway 35 before heading north. Which means for those of you in the last wave, you'll probably get to see the pro men pretty close as are finishing their out and back on 35 and the last wave is just starting your out and back. There will be a little bit of time when the last wave is actually riding with them.

Any recent reports on the water temp for the lake? I don't "think" i'll be bringing a wetsuit, but was curious as to the current reported temps. As to everyone in the M35-39 AG, just give me a thumbs up as you pass by me.. I'm ready, not as ready as i'd like to be, but if I can get one last long ride in this week i'll feel better.. (the last 50 miler consisted of getting 10 miles out and having to duck into a ditch to avoid the 20mph whind driven rain/lightning, etc for 45 minutes...

 Getting stoked for the race!

Best of luck to everyone heading up there!

Just checked the total bib numbers from ironmanmuncie.com ... over 1600 registrants!!

When I look up the Muncie Endurathon race results for years past, it looks like 400-800 participants was the range.  I hope the venue can support 2X+ the number of athletes....

Can't wait.  Countin' the days!

I am sure I'm overreacting... This is my first HIM and even though I have been training for almost 9 months, I don't feel ready. I had a couple of bad workouts in the last few weeks that left me feeling unprepared. I know it's all in my head and once I get through this first one all will be well.

Yesterday I was on Muncie tri shop site (forget name) but I think I saw a meter on the home page showing Prarie Creek water temp at 77.  Looks like Muncie is forecasting some storms this wknd so there could be some change, but I am not a meteorologist.

Also excited about Muncie 70.3.  This is my first HIM and a tune up race for Louisville IM.  I too am a bit worried about how I will do on this race.  I am coming off of a week+ of no training due to a wicked cold.  Once i get past the residual morning congestion, I am very laser focussed on my training, then hack through the evening.  All the same I am still very excited about this race.  I have been training since Jan and am ready to hit the course with everyone.  good luck all.

I saw you're from Indy- and I thought I'd ask. I'm in Lafayette and my hubby and I are part of T3 Multisport's Team T3. It's a pretty awesome group!!! Usually though, I'm also just a team of 1 too- unless my other personalities decide to show up! LOL!

I used the google to find that site with the prairie creek reservoir water temp.

http://www.munciemultisport.com/

Still showing the 77 degrees temp from this past monday. I wonder how often they update it.

I don't have much experience with OWS, but I am wondering how chilly 77 degrees is, compared to a normal indoor lap pool (like the YMCA, or whatever).

How chilly would it have to be before you would be DEFINITELY wearing the wetsuit? I know that the added buoyancy and speed means that some folks will use it as long as it is allowed. But leave that out of the equation. If it was just the water temp that you made your decision on, what temp would it be?

Just checked Rand Mcnally, Im looking at a 10hr 15min drive on Thrus the 7th from Newnan GA to Muncie IN. Planning on going right to packet p/u before they close at 6pm, then to the hotel, then dinner and coma.
Maybe get in a light run on Fri morning before re-coning the course, bike check-in, expo, etc
Anyone want to do I-Hop for a bigass pancake breakie on Fri morning???

YMCA pools are usually pretty warm - 80 degrees or warmer. 77 might feel cool if you're used to that, but not chilly. I wouldn't wear a wetsuit for warmth at that temperature.

ETA: I think this is a pretty individual thing. I looked up the temperature in the pool I swim in, and it's maintained at 79. Many people find this too cold and prefer to swim in the diving well (mid-80s). I wouldn't last 10 minutes in the diving well (too hot!).

still about 10 days out right now, but looks like it's forcasted to peak in the low 80s for the temps on Saturday.. keeping my fingers crossed.. means that the lake might cool off a bit, so we'll see but I don't think it will make that big of a difference..

Also traveling on race day morning, my wife/kids are looking to get there a little later than I and was curious if anyone had a good route/options/suggestions as to getting in/parking, etc?

I went ahead and reserved a sleeveless wetsuit for me.. I prefer the comfort of a wetsuit in this distance. I own a full, but I know the water will definitely be too warm for the full suit. We are going over on Sunday to do a course visual, figure out parking, fastest way from point A to point B.. I just hope the weather holds out for us on the 9th!! I too am keeping my fingers crossed!
