Awesome!  I volunteered at bike special needs in the morning and took pictures all day till midnight this past weekend.  I got to the registration line at 8:30, and was surprised to find that there were so many people already there.  It will be my second, but first IMAZ.

In as well. This will be my first. This year's race was suppose to be my first, but broke my pelvis in a bike accident 10 weeks prior to the start. Time for some payback.

I am in too!  First IM and am super excited.  I flew in to volunteer because I have family there and had expiring skymiles.  Was undecided if I would sign up as I went down but being there I knew I had to do it.

I am in and it will be my first full IM.  I volunteered at IMAZ this year, what an amazing experience.  For all of you doing your first full IM I would highly recommend watching one first.

I am thinking about 2012.  When do people begin signing up for Volunteering at the 2011 Race and what are the best Volunteer jobs.

I am SOOOOOOO in. I volunteered at this years race in the medical group, great experience. Stayed until the midnight hour and then was back t 5:30 in the morning to sign-up.  I am also planning on doing the 1/2 in April. It is suppose to be same course as IMAZ, should be a good preview.

My first time at the distance and am excited. My wife is already thinking it's going to be a long year.

I was thinking "what April half are you talking about" so I looked it up.

I presume you mean the April 10th "Marquee Triathlon" http://redrockco.com/events/event-details.cfm?id=CFC825B6-B698-4D92-D2D140A4C584CFF3

Says it's the first annual, with half Iron, Olympic, and sprint events.  Swim in Tempe Town Lake, bike on the IM course with 2 loops for half.  Run around Temp Town Lake, with 2 loops for the half.

Very interesting.  My kids' spring break is April 4-8th.  And I need an early half to train for IM CDA.

And the Red Rock company putting on the race sounds like they may know what they're doing.

That is the 1/2 I was talking about.  I have done races with Red Rock in the past and a very professional company. The course from what I've heard is to be very close to the IM course and April in Tempe should be very nice weather. Also if you haven't swam in Tempe Town lake would be a good chance to see it for yourself.

That is the 1/2 I was referring to.

I have raced with Red Rock in the past, very professional company.  They know how to put on a great event.

The course is suppose to be very similar to the IM course and should give a good preview of what to expect.  Also if you've never seen/swam in Tempe Town lake will be good experience.

And Tempe, AZ in April, beautiful weather should be on tap.

Great - if Red Rock knows what they're doing, I'm going to sign up for that race.  Sweet!

BTW, I've done IMAZ three times, all in April, all as spring break family vacations. I was deeply disappointed they moved the race to November.  A half IM in Tempe in early April will be great.  I love the heat, but I'd be happier with less wind, so a half is a perfect distance.

It's 11 weeks before my first IM of the year (IMCDA on 4/26) so it's a little to far out to call it a training race, though.  But I won't have to worry about recovering from injury or whatnot.

All in all - perfect.  Thanks for mentioning it!

I'm in!  Missed the bike cut off at IMAZ 2009 when my deraileur hanger broke off and I lost all gears.  Lesson learned, I now own an extra hanger that I keep with me in races!!

Going to do Red Rock's race in April as well.  They put on great races!!

Considering doing that race in the spring, but not to sound arrogant, it doesn't seem like IMAZ is a race where its overly critical to preview the course (unlike IMSG or IMLP).  I'll definately do a race around that time but its a matter of doing the local one or spending some cash on a hotel and travel.

Having previewed it while volunteering, I'd say you are right.  Spent a lot of time on the IMSG course, and it was much needed.  This one, less so.  The course does have some slight uphill work on the outbound, and downhill on the return.  That said, the day I rode it, the tailwind going uphill made that very easy - the downhill headwind made the downhill a lot of work.  If you can find some relatively flat rides to train on with some wind, I think you'd be good to go.

I've raced IMAZ three times back when it was in April.  You don't need to preview the course on the bike, a simple drive will or not at all is also fine.

I didn't preview IMLP; I didn't even drive the course beforehand other than the Keene descent.  I was fine.
