Ironman 70.3 Boise : Official Thread (Page 2)

The 2 big climbs that I recall from 2009 (they altered the course slightly but I believe these are still there) were heading up Gowen Road ~5 miles from T1. This hill is the longer gradual one and personally, I don't consider it to be that hard of a hill. It's relatively long but I've ridden up it in my big ring before. The 2nd big hill is on pleasant valley road. This hill is much steeper and shorter. This is a little bit harder of a hill, but if you live anywhere with any kind of hills it shouldn't be that bad. The worst part will be turning around on 10 mile creek and then riding back up pleasant valley road. |

Yes, Barclay Bay is right on the other side of the dam. You will ride over the dam immediately out of T1 and down HWY 21 towards Micron. |

I wouldn't call it flat. It's a lot of roller style hills. It's not too bad though. Pretty standard Idaho riding. |

Last time if I recall correctly, they had the Gatorade bottles with the twist top. I don't remember them giving out water. |

Last time if I recall correctly, they had the Gatorade bottles with the twist top. I don't remember them giving out water. They passed out bottled water last year. No race is going to pass out bike-bottles with water - too much $$. |

I lived in Boise several years ago and really love the running there. I had one of those runs in which things seem really effortless. I know the next time I run will be a bit more suffering. For those of you that are familiar with Boise, the greenbelt really is a flat bike trail which is pretty sheltered by trees but can get a nice breeze from the river. There are a few sections that it will go under the roads. There are some great places for family to watch in the shade and some nice parks for kids to play on while you suffer. I think the only real problem is that the trail is pretty narrow and it will suck to go so close to the finish line and have to repeat. Now for the dreamer, glutton in me. Wish that they would combine Robbie Creek and Boise 70.3. It would be an epic but brutal run. |

Last time I didn't find the crowding to be that big of an issue. By the time everyone hits the run, you're spread out enough it's not bad. |

I rode it a few weeks ago and it's pretty far down. I'd guess around 3-4 miles. It was hard to tell because my computer quit working and it was so windy, on the way out it felt like an hour and on the way back it felt like 5 minutes. |

The difference was very noticeable. I think this means the swim (which feeds the river) is going to be much more on the chilly side than normal. I'd be prepared for that. |

What a great run! I think you are right about the water temp. Snow this week in the mountains. The good news of the 12 PM start is that I won't be shivering until I hit the water. |

Starting to get very geeked up for the race. Race numbers are out! Starting to obsess about all the things I can't control, like weather, water temp etc. Trying to remind myself to focus on what I can control, taper right, and getting some good sleep. Now, to stay focused at work for the next week until I fly out! |

I know we can't control it, but prepping for 60 degrees takes less out of me than thinking about 52 or 54!
