Pre-race routine:

Wake up, shower, three Hammer endurolytes, one Lava salts tab, ensure, two cups of coffee and water.
Event warmup:

Swam a little bit. Since my wave started 45 minutes after the race start, figured a warm up would be a waste of time.

For the first time ever, I started to the front. Got hit a bit, but had clear water after about 100 meters. Just tried to work hard. I kept reminding myself that this race was why I've been dragging myself to masters classes this past year.

While 22nd in my AG, I've never ever averaged 19.3MPH. EVER. I have to say that riding with lots of other riders made the bike route really short, mentally. Just a fun ride and I was blown away with my bike time.

Due to the number of riders on the course, I really had to work hard to avoid drafting. At times this required hanging back, and at other times to just go for it. It really was a balance between racing your race and following the rules. Felt like I made some good decisions. I did have a couple of wheel suckers which is pretty funny. If you're going to draft, I ain't your man. They could do much better than me.

Transition 2
  • 02m 23s

At the end of the bike I got a cramp in the arch of my left foot. So at T2 I actually sat down to put my shoes on and stretch my foot. I knew it was taking time, but hey. Gotta deal with the cramp.
What would you do differently?:

If I knew I'd need to sit down, I would have brought some sort of stool/cooler or something to sit on.
  • 25m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile

The run was fine and we were really blessed this year with moderate temps. I'm not a fan of off-road and sand running so I did the best I could to finish strong, yet uninjured.

Post race
Warm down:

Looked for family members and BT friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I surpassed even my stretch goal for the race so I can't quite think about how I should have gone faster. I can't even explain how well I did.

Event comments:

It was so much fun to finally meet several BT'ers. The bear? Cajun pussycat, really ( comments are direct, yada, yada, yada). The bear's wife rocks. She really needs to start posting here. She's beautiful AND funny. I'm a het girl, but I always love the combo. Oh, and the bear had a great race as well.

OldAg? Total stud. He'd be a Junction Boy in the day. Wish I could have talked to him more but post-race craziness (trying to find my family)....He did really, really well. Javelin should be paying him. Really.

Waskelton y esposa? Totally cute. Yes, you're a stud, too, Wa. Were you the one who kept passing me on the bike? You always talk like you're a sausage, but you so aren't. You looked great today. Really. Your beautiful wife really needs to step up and kick both of our a**es at this tri thing. She sure looks like she could.

And Michael, Michael, Michael. Could anybody get more unlucky?! Three flats? Congrats, your next three years will be glitch-free. Promise. Thank you for being the Shreveport ambasador; I can't think of a better representative. Michael is the best.

Great race, lynda and nice meeting you. Wow, top 25% of your AG and 19.3mph on the bike, sounds like everything fell into place.
