No Set-Up Tri's Closed Yet?

Yes 3-5 years ago the more popular races (Lake Norman, Latta, White Lake) would fill up the day they opened but over the past 2-3 years they have stayed open longer and longer.  I think most of this is due to the economy but part of it could also be the fact that this year there are 24 races in the IOSTS (NC series) and 19 more in the TTS (Developmental series) whereas 5 years ago there were probably less than half that amount. In the end I'm sure most of these races will fill up or at least get around 80% full.

Also, the races mentioned by the OP are now 2 day events.

Well with prices going up on everything in triathlon and the world,  enrty fee,cloths, gas, hotels and so on ,poeple are trying to find or choose the best bang for there buck. New races new challanges. 

And with FSSeries putting on a lot of event, often on the same weekend, it dilutes things a lot.

Makes me quite happy!  I now only sign up a couple of days before the big price jump.  Saves me from having to signup for half of my races in January.  Belews is the only thing I have signed up for (other than my 5$ entry to Stumpy Creek) and that was today because the price goes up $10 on Tuesday.  If I can space out my entry fee's, it helps me tremendously with my budget.
