Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a plain, dry bagel and some water. Our sherpas drove Neal and I out to the race start and we socialized a bit before heading to the corral.
Event warmup:

Not much. Little bit of jumping around and stretching
Run
  • 1h 53m 51s
  • 21.08 kms
  • 05m 24s  min/km
Comments:

Well...so I started off really well. I was ahead of the 1:50 pace guys for about 9 miles and then those last 4 miles took a bit of a hit. At 5km a guy deeked in front of me and I got tripped and fell. I had grabbed his hand when I went down so I didn't completely wipe out, but I grazed my hand and elbow and bruised my hip a bit.

What would you do differently?:

In hindsight I might have taken it out a bit too hard and then paid for it on the back, but what are you going to do. My 6.6mile split was 56:17...so I didn't do as poorly as I thought I was doing. Haha. I guess I normally just feel stronger and can negatively split.

Definately need some more aerobic conditioning. My longest run prior to the race was about 17km in Maui 3 weeks before and even before that I had only done 2 other runs above 10km. Just really early in my season for a HM...so I think I did pretty well considering. 6min PR!!

I also wouldn't trip...haha...
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around...collapsed on the curve and sat there for awhile and had some sugar. Haha

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of LSD runs, tripping, early season race

Event comments:

Nice race, nice course AND IT ISN'T -30C!!!! Haha.

I think an appropriate comment here would be a reiteration of the poem I had to write for you for losing the "closest to their PR" challenge.  Or was it for forfeiting the swim off?  Either way, no stipulations about tripping this go around Tongue out

Melissa ran with a serious face
But she ran at a blistering pace
She ran really far
And she set a PR
She even got tripped and kept running with grace

In all seriousness, good job and great PR!

It was indeed a great race!
Just think of the PR if you had been running long and hadn't tripped.
You rock!
Umm, and isn't that last line of Neals poem a bit different?
