I'm considering it.

Any reason why that don't make it a true olympic length?  It drives me nuts that so many of the swims are reduced for no apparent reason.  Heart of Dixie comes to mind...

I'm planning on racing it.  It'll be my 2nd oly and the first time at this particular race.  Seems like a pretty straightforward course, anything unique about it other than the swim being shorter than most olys?

I'm sure it is to not scare away too many non-swimmers.

I agree though, If the swims were longer I might not get passed quite so soon on the bike by the rest of my wave!

The swim is in the aptly named... "Muddy Ross" Don't expect to see anything underwater, not even your elbow.

The bike is pretty fast, depending on the wind, and the run is an out and back with the "out" being, overall, slightly uphill. That makes for a nice "back"

Ha!  The first triathlon I did was Dragonfly-I did pretty well in the water, yet because of that I did not pass a single person the rest of the day.  Wasn't fun!

Hold your horses till later in the summer, we are trying to put together a true Olympic distance in Vicksburg to benefit our local swim team.

I am racing Kansas the week after the heatwave and my boss wants to do a relay team so I am going to bike for the team this year.

Awesome.  We need a true OLY in the area.

I also dropped some strong hints to a buddy that works for Start2Finish that our area lacks a true OLY and some late season events.  I hope he was listening.  A fall OLY in the Jackson area would get a lot of participation.

Awesome!
Hope it's going well! We'll need to organize an open water swim closer to race time if there aren't any already happening.

Sounds great! With the addition of one more good race we'll have a good local tri season!

Let us know when you get more details!

Yes-I agree.  I'll sign up now for a fall Jackson-area olympic.  Preferably one with the full swim...

Do you know what our area REALLY needs?  A FALL HALF-IRON DISTANCE.

It's been an idea tossed around by the Heat.  It's just too big of an animal for the club to take on at the moment.  It would be freaking awesome though, and it's in the back of our minds.

Glad to hear it.  We've developed a nice little group of triathletes up here in the Delta-I think we would have 5-10 people interested in completing a local HIM.

An organized OWS would be great.  I'm sure somebody is doing it somewhere, I heard about some last year.

I would do it.  I've never done one but I'd sign up without hesitation.  I say that now...

Monday nights, 5:45, at Reunion Lake (site of Soak up the Sun). My next post will be a copy and paste of an email.  Kendrick Gibson has organized some group training for the MS Heat.  The following is an email from him...

This is a notice from the group 'Mississippi Heat Regular Workouts':

We had a great first week of scheduled group workouts! We had a much larger than expected
group at Reunion for the swim last Monday, working on sighting and getting comfortable in the
water. Last Tuesday\'s track workout was fun with running a few 800s, based on fitness levels.
On Thursday\'s group ride we had over 10 people, from the first time rider to some fast athletes!
We had something for everyone!

The Thursday ride will change to 5:30 to allow those beginner riders more daylight to complete
the route.

Weather Note: If there is lightning, or conditions that could produce lightning, the workout will
be cancelled.

1. Open Water Swimming We\'ll work on either endurance swimming, developing speed in open
water, or just being comfortable in open water if that\'s your struggle.

When: Monday evenings, 5:45pm
Where: Reunion Lake

2. Track/Brick Workout on Track. We\'ll either do a track workout or you can bring your trainer
and we\'ll do a brick repeat workoutt to help train your legs to make the adjustment from
cycling to running faster.

When: Tuesday Mornings, 5:15am
Where: Madison County High School Track*

*We could move this to Jackson Prep if there are more people in the Flowood/Brandon/etc area
that would like to participate than from the Madison/Ridgeland area.

3. Group Brick. Starting out we\'ll do the Soulshine-Pocahontas out-and-back route, but may
make modifications to keep it fresh. I will provide route sheets for the new people. Optional
run afterward will range from 10min-30min.

When: Thursday Evenings. Meet at 5:15, wheels down at 5:30.
Where: Soulshine Parking lot (south end of parking lot)

Also, I like to get out in the REZ occasionally on Sunday afternoon.  I usually just swim the sea wall in front of Old Trace Park.  Park and get in over where Cock of the Walk is (where the Heatwave transition is).
