Swim
Comments: I did a lot better on this swim than I thought! I was 4th out of the pool, in a heat of more than 50. The 4 people per lane thing was kinda wacky at first, but it eventually filtered out. Because I was on the "near" side of the exit, I had to run around a cone placed on the side of the pool to offset the difference from the "far" people. I swam consistently, and didn't relapse back into my "get out front and stay out front" mentality from competitive swimming. I didn't feel woozy or dizzy out of the pool..got right out, got the goggles off and then the cap, rounded the cone and took off like a bat outta hell. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: Had a good transition, a little trouble with my new bike socks, but I was out of there in a decent amount of time. Me and this other lady were racing eachother to the mount line. I somehow managed to jump on my bike and land right in my clips with no problem. Took off and felt good going! I was glad that i didn't ahve problems getting my insulin pump on. Bike
Comments: Good course, fast, pavement was kinda crappy in places but that's pittsburgh, the hill 4 times was awful, especially because of the hard left turn at the bottom of the hill which made you break. The heat made it really tough at some points. What would you do differently?: push harder up the hill. Transition 2
Comments: Ran up the wrong isle! Got my bike racked just fine and got my shoes on quickly. Since I wasn't wearing gloves this time i got out of there pretty quick. What would you do differently?: remember where the hell my stuff is. Run
Comments: I actually had a pretty good run, for me at least. I managed to find the runner's high. The fact that the trail was pretty "off road" and hilly with lots of rocks and varrying degrees of gravel/sand/rock/dirt made it interesting. It was also very narrow at some points which made it hard to pass/be passed gracefully. Good part was that it was shady and in the woods most of the time, but very, very humid. What would you do differently?: Ehh, more water or bring my own. Post race
Warm down: Water water water water gatorade water water orange bagel water water What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat probably, having such a late start time (9:40) meant finishing later when it was hotter Event comments: Not enough water stations! Race directions/packet info was confusing and not written well. Annoucements were not clearly heard, race meeting was disorganized, most people missed it! Would have been better if chip timed. Breakfast at 5:30, drove out to the site, had to wait for them to set up the transition area so i could park my bike and set up, road the bike course (a loop) and chatted with other participants...stretched, nervously called my boyfriend and parents.
Once around the bike loop to get a feel for it...pretty fast downhills, some rolling uphills, and ONE HUGE FREAKING long hill that you had to climb 4 times
