Pre-race routine:

helped with late registration for the kids race and the adults 5k/10k....

just wanted to say something about this great kids event. 3rrr puts on a 1 mile kids race FREE of charge for 15 and under. to promote young running, the top 3 schools (with over 100 runners) get a cash prize, 1500 for 1st, 1000 for second and 500 for third. it is so cool seeing these kids getting excited about running so early, and of course, they get ribbons and cool race numbers to keep. way to go 3rrr!
Event warmup:

ran a mile with mark, he ran 13!

Comments:

this race is known to have some quick runners, mostly trying to get a nice 10k time to qualify for bloomsday
the RD made the call to start the 10k runners 10 minutes before the 5k runners, to cut down on the traffic at the 5k turn around for the fast 10kers, this worked out, however, it lead to major foot traffic to dodge on the way back, 40-50 minute 10kers were right in the middle of the 28-30 minute 5kers, but it was still an improvement.

my race started fast, the first mile is a slight down hill, but i paced it well, slowly working my way up to the mile marker at 5:51, fast, but not stupid fast.

settled into 6:20 pace for the next mile, and slowly moved up the field, i was sitting about 12th and was running right behind the previous years women champ, who ran a 38 last year. i ended up passing here ~2.25 and could tell she was hurting badly

mile 3 was 6:25 and i was at the turn around in 19:17...i felt fine, but the balls of my feet were getting hot, i was stupid and ran in new socks. i would pay.

mile 4 was 6:22, and i knew i had 13 minutes and change to run 2 miles to break 40, which i have NEVER done. so i was excited, but also scared of the massive rubbing on my feet.

made the turn back on the trail to join the 5kers and just had to fight my way through, i yelled for a while, then just said screw it and ran, they had to realize they were in the way, i mean ppl were walking 4 abreast on a 8 foot wide trail...but i pressed on an ran a 610 last mile and crossed the line in 39 38, perfect way to celebrate my birthday, breaking 40!
What would you do differently?:

wear the right socks
Post race
Warm down:

cleaned up the race area and ate a veggie burger at kimos, won my ag, only because 1st and 2nd overall where in my age group, 34:20 won it!

erin had a great race, finishing at 7 min/mile exactly, like 7:00:04 43:25., so close to sub 6!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

socks, 5k traffic

Event comments:

2000 runners in total!
1000 kids for the mile
and 980ish for teh 5 and 10k!

amazing
