i'm thinking about getting a new ride, how do i know what to sell my old one for? is there like a 'blue book' for bikes? and if there isn't, why the hell not. help. thanks.
I didn't know that this existed until I started looking at the thread on preownedbikes.com; but I found this link that might help you. Don't know if you can trust this; you might want to check the prices youget against ebay to see if someone has recently sold a bike similar to yours there.
I dont know if I would go off the POB websites trade in value. I would guess its kind of like trading a car in at a dealership; youll always lose money on the trade. I would look on ebay's completed auctions to find a similar bike and find out what it sold for. Also check the classifieds on here and some of the other sites. If your bike is an old model with some newer upgrades, you may want to think about taking them off and putting the older stuff back on.
Depending on how old your bike is, you may want to just keep it for a spare/beater (put in the trainer, ride in bad weather, etc). Going back to my bike shop days, there was not a whole lot of re-sale potential unless it was still very new or particularly high end.
