Pre-race routine:

Awake at 5. Coffee, water, banana, and bathroom. Stopped at Starbucks on the way and got oatmeal with all the fixings and a grande latte. I ate all of the oatmeal and drank most of the latte. J drove the ~1hr to get to antelope island. I didn't feel really nervous. Two porta potty stops before the race. Whined for a bit about taking my warm layers off. I probably should have stowed my shell jacket, but I didn't (luckily it performed well and I didn't over heat). Race started on time at 9am.
Event warmup:

whining and porta potty line dancing :)

Comments:

I ran a road 1/2 marathon the weekend before this race so I started off thinking this would be a training run. I really got into the run after the joy of being on trails for the first time in the season took over. I didn't hammer the run, but definately gave it a strong tempo effort. I was practicing hydration and nutrition on this run prepping for Pocatello 50 and IMCDA. I had 30oz of water in a pack and finished it all. I took 2x5oz of succeed at the aid station(s) and also 1/2 banana the first time through. I carried two 5 serving flasks of hammer gel and ended up eating about 4 servings. I was thirsty at the end of the race, but not extremly so. I was also hungry after, but never felt tired or bonky during the run.
What would you do differently?:

I feel real good about matching my effort to the course and my current fitness level. Maybe I could have run more of the long switchback section. I think I walked more because people around me were walking.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much. Walked around a bit and got some buffalo stew. I wasn't sure it would sound good, but it did! I was hungry and my stomach felt good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Still convincing my body that I'm a runner :) My head is there!

Event comments:

This was a trail race so the drink station comment would be ok if that was a choice. You should always plan on self support for trail races, but it's nice to have options. The one aid station (that was actually two because you loop back to it) was well stocked and supported.

Course: Beginner friendly trails with only a few really technical sections. About 35% single track with the remainder being four-wheeling fire road type trail. Rolling course with three switch back sections. One was fairly steep, rocky, and about two miles long (for the love!). Plenty of mud to be had, but the sandy soil made most sections dry enough and very runnable. 2000ft elevation gain
