Age Group Rank = 10/29
Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:30am.2 cups of Bear Naked Granola, cup of coffee. Left for event at 4:30am. Got there at 5:30am. Set up transistion and walked to water with mom.
Event warmup:

Stretched a little bit. 1 GU
Swim
  • 12m 13s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

Very interesting swim. First saltwater experience. The ramp was so long that our wave started before we got to the starting buoys. Had to run in waist deep water to get there. Got kicked alot and I kicked alot. Had to breast stroke more than I wanted too to navigate. Going out was a little difficult because of the slight chop but once rounding the buoys and headed back in I was on the outside alone so I was able to swim like normal again. Took a breath every two strokes. Drank alot of salt.
What would you do differently?:

Start closer to the front.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

The run from the swim to the transistion was a haul! Running with wetsuit was different. Disappointed in T1 time but thankfully I didn't put on socks this time because that would have slowed me down more.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster!
Bike
  • 43m 18s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Started out fast with momentum and then got caught up in a cluster. Passed the cluster and then I just slowed down. Played ping pong with a couple of competitors. Coming back, had a tail wind so I averaged 19-20.
What would you do differently?:

Drink and take the GU. I didn't grab my bottle once to try and stay on pace. Push more. Ride the road more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Drank a sip or two from the bottle before I headed out of there.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe have shoes tied already with the zippy things.
Run
  • 23m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Adrenaline was kicking and I was off. I kept the best pace I have ever had. Kept my stride small and knew I could make up time from the swim and bike by kicking butt in the run. It was so comfortable after the first few minutes once my legs got in gear. Best run ever! Drank water at first stop and then acclerade at second stop. Took GU once started the run.
What would you do differently?:

Push myself a little more to get to 22min.
Post race
Warm down:

Water and walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need speed work on swim and on bike.

Event comments:

Great time! Looking forward to next year!
