Are there two Kevins. or are you talking about me?  I'm Keith.

I've been told that having a wetsuit on is almost like swimming with a pull buoy.  I'm hopping they're right!!  My goal is also to do an olympic distance this year.  I'm starting to wonder if I bit off a little to much.  The swim is very humbling...

Hey Team.

Welcome to those I missed earlier.

Trigator (Karen) my twin sisters name is Karen - I like you already LOL. Happy Birthday Smile and listen to the Iceman he is right when he says check out total immersion on line and also swimsmooth.com.

Kevin nice to meet you and the more Kevin's the better as far as this Kevin is concerned! I was going to wait until we got to know each other a bit better but I may as well ask right now - on behalf of the entire group - can you please explain your nick name "nakdbordr" Embarassed

Mary A  Hi Mary, nice to meet you.

It looks like there is a few of us that are weak swimmers so I am sure we will all be able to help and encourage each other along the way and I am looking for all the help I can get (as a lot of you know already).

Just an FYI - our Coach and Mentor is away doing some training today but I am sure he will check in soon.

OK - off for a windy bike rid - stay safe everyone.

KC

x2 on Swim Smooth.  Granted, I'm in a 25yard pool, but it got me from 2:05 to 1:45 per 100.  Sometimes when I'm sitting at the computer, I'll just put on the "swim smooth" animation.  I love their swim types.  I'm an "overglider."  I didn't buy their stuff, but read about it on the website.  That's when the 20second jump per 100 happened.  It's recent...we'll see if it sticks!

Swim Smooth...has helped me also. I love Mr Smooth.

When I started swimming I of course did everything wrong...lifted my head to breathe etc. A stranger at the gym saw my fustrations and recommended the site. I still get nervous and intimidated in the water but I have managed to improved my breathing and stroke. I am hoping it will be enough to make it through 800meters on Apirl 30.

hhmmmmmm where should I start-- I am adventurous person so as  an avid snowboarder and wakeboarder I will not shy away from things.  It started as a bet/dare on a warm spring day at the top of a snow covered mountain-I was told I would not do a run down the mountain naked well I did. I have since wakeboarded naked also. Wink

It is not really a nickname more a screen name/ e-mail address for me.

I'd like to join, please!

Name: Sarah

Story: My story begins in 2009..I was turning 30 and going through a divorce. I wasn't very active other than gym workouts but that year I signed up for my first century, the San Jose Livestrong Challenge.  Last spring I joined a competitive cycling team and got my feet wet with a few criteriums.  In the same season I did a couple duathlons and really enjoyed myself.  This year I'm ready to take it to the next level and add the swimming!

Family Status: Mom to a 5 year old Vizsla

Current Training:
Currently in week 1 for a Half IM in mid July.  Training with Infinity Multisport. Thinking of another race after the HalfIM to keep me out of trouble  I realize diving into a Half IM as my first tri is probably not a good idea so I'm planning on a Sprint and maybe an Olympic beforehand.  Haven't figured out which ones yet...need to chat with my coach.

2010 Races:
MetLife Duathlon; Bangs Lake Duathlon; Sherman Park Criterium; Wolf Freitag 2 man TT; Woodale Master Criterium

Weightloss goals:
Lose enough to be fast!

Looking forward to going through this with everyone!

sarah

Great group.  I am so glad that Dave agreed to carry through from the "winter" group.  I was getting to know folks, many have already appeared here, plus we have lots of new enthusiastic blood.  Good deal!

I love Mr. Smooth too. He helped a lot.  For those interested, Mr. Smooth is an Australian swim coaching group that put together an avatar named Mr. Smooth who illustrates the "perfect" swim stroke.   You can download him to your desktop and watch him from any angle.  Really helps to visualize.  Plus they have great tips on their emails.

I swam this morning with Masters to work out gliding, stroke efficiency.  Speed is still coming down with less effort.  Love it.  Just biked 90 mins on the computrainer with 2 X 20 mins @ 100% FTP plus! 304 watts for the first and an even stronger 309 watts for the second. Great workout.  Loving this lactate threshold series of workouts.  Getting stronger.

Did my yoga to stretch the IT. I'll ice, then use rollers in front of the TV and then crash early.  Getting more sleep has improved performance and is keeping the outlook up. Have a great night.

Ice.

Is there still room for me to join your group?

Name: Heather

Story: I've played recreational sports (of all kinds) for many, many years.  I started running about 8 years ago, at first just to get in shape for my other sports, then it became an event/activity of its own.  Several 5 and 10k races, and one half-marathon later, I signed up for my first triathlon (a sprint) on a whim.. now I'm training for my second half and looking to start getting ready for the tri.

Family Status:  a newleywed with two big dogs.

Current Training:
I'm training for a half-marathon at the end of May, so things are heavy on the running.  I'm also trying to swim once or twice a week, and spin (although now that the snow is gone, I'll be breaking my bike out soon).

2010 Races:
last year I ran a 5k (in January), a 10k (in May), and a half marathon (in September)

Hey Team.

Welcom Sarah. It is great to have you with us.

Welcome Heather - this is cool, we now have a Karen (my twin sisters name) and a Heather, my older sisters name - fantastic!

Coach (Dave), I hope all is going well with the work training and that you enjoy your run.

Iceman, you are truly motivational - awesome workouts. I did a bike this afternoon but I cut it short, the wind was bordering on dangerous. I think I will be keeping the trainer handy for a little bit yet.

I will be in the pool tonight from 8:30-9:30 for a work out. For those of you new, I did not start really learning how to swim until a late last year so it is real raw for me. I have probably bored a few of the group over the past couple of months with my moaning LOL. Seriously though, the group that Coach mentioned that is back have been incredibly supportive for me so don't hold back. Hell, I even post youtube clips of me swimming for comment and after the laughter I get some good tips Smile, so you just jump in and share.

One more thing, thanks for sharing the naked boarding story Kev - I think you will fit right in!

Have a great night team.

KC

NAME: Charlie Moore /chmoore2

STORY:
2011 will be my 2nd year in Triathlon.  I started last year as a way to maintain the weightloss I acheived over the previous year.  Pretty slow over all but the training is fun and I like having races in front of me for motivation.

FAMILY STATUS:
Married, going on 13 years.  Have two crazy boys 6 and 8, and a big German Shepard.

CURRENT TRAINING:
Been following a custom plan made with the BT plan creator.  3X a week for each discipline.  I have one more class left in my swimming clinic where hopefully I learned to be a bit faster in the water.  My logs are up to date and welcome comments.

2010 Races:
First Year only did 2 Sprints and a handfull of 5Ks

2011 RACES:

February 6th - Super Couch Potato 5K - 30:17
March 5th - Tipp Hill Shamrock Run (4 Mile) 44:08
May 1st - Mountain Goat Run (10 Mile)
June 4th - Paige's Butterfly 5K
June 11th - YMCA Livestrong Sprint Triathlon
July 17th - Musselman HIM
August 14th - Cazenovia Sprint Triathlon
September 18th - Syracuse 70.3
October 16th - Empire State Half Marathon

WEIGHT LOSS:
I would like to get down to 190 by the time I do my HIM, that would be about 20 more pounds to go.  Still not small but way better than where I started.   280 lbs and 5'7".  I've been stuck at 210 for about 8 months now.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE:
I am willing to learn and contribute as much as possible.  I am very excited about my long distance tri, and will have lots of questions on nutrition and training.

I'm right there with you. I've been stuck between 205-210 for months.  I'd like to get below 200 also because I haven't been there since like middle school (I think).

Scott that is AWSOME!!!! Congrats

my little 5 mile run is nothing compared to that but the knee had very little pain so I am happy.  As an update I tweeked my knee and have (might cancel) a MRI for Thursday, it felt like bone on bone for a couple days.
