Pre-race routine:

Actually packed last night, got everything together and felt prepared. Slept like crap as usual, but I had some Starbucks to get the blood flowing. Ate a yogurt, banana, and a V8.
Event warmup:

Arrived in plenty of time, picked up Kate's stuff since she couldn't race. Stretched a bit and felt pretty loose. Talked with Kathleen and Julie, then seeded myself in the last wave at the back. This was not smart in retrospect.

Comments:

I should NOT have started at the back. My pace was God-awful slow getting out of the gate. I think I was throwing down about 10:40 miles for the first two miles. A lot of traffic jams led to walking in spots. By mile 8 my lack of training was starting to show. No real aches or pains, but the body was not used to going more than 8. By mile 10 I was walking a lot. The last hill was a total bear, and the last leg into the finish line I was jogging. I just need to train more, it's that simple.
What would you do differently?:

Seed in a faster heat/group. Probably consume more water before the start, as well. Taking a gel in at the start was a good idea- I felt energized.

Warm down:

Wavedog handing me a PBR with 100 yards left was hilarious! Met him and StMaas, and had lunch. Met some of my other friends and chatted and ate. Really fun afternoon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training and lack of focus. I need to commit to this stuff 100%. This is the slowest half I've ever run by like 3 minutes, and that includes 70.3's. Not my shining moment by any means.

Event comments:

I love this race. Still one I will always make room for on my calendar. I wish the trail were wider, but this is an April 1/2, nobody is in top shape yet.

Well you got through it and that's big this early in the year.  Spring 1/2s are tough to get ready for.  Love the PBR!
