swim about 200 yds
Swim
  • 13m 16s
  • 437 yards
  • 03m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went pretty well, perfectly clear, flat ocean water. felt a little slow but I'm pretty sure swim was against the current, as I could feel the current carrying me during warmup, but no so much in swim in opposite direction. overall swim times were slower for all from last year.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, just work on technique to improve overall speed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

T1 faster than last year. bike mount was a little slower due to traffic.
What would you do differently?:

not much
Bike
  • 27m 53s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.52 mile/hr
Comments:

bike went really well. much faster than last year, and over 21 avg is awesome. fastest tri avg to date. no problems passing people. did have side stitch on rt side that wouldn't go away. not sure why i got, unless from salt water swallowing.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, went really well.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

a little trouble getting shoes on. other than that, no issues
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 31m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

side stitch from bike never went away, but i kept a good pace (for me) and had zero walks.
What would you do differently?:

a bit more training and weight loss before hand
Post race
Warm down:

hang out with OYM team :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

side stitch, and was very hot and humid on run.

Event comments:

good race. beat last year's time by 5 min :) top 52% overall. seems like i'm making that move from BOP to MOP. hopefully i can sustain at st. anthony's in 2 wks.

Nice improvement...   It was a great day out there and ocean was very kind to most the swimmers yesterday morning.   Swim did feel a bit long or perhaps it was the current.   Took me a good 2 minute longer that last time...

pretty sure it was the current.  i recalled later that at the turn buoys, the anchor ropes were stretched such as a south flowing current.  other than that, one of the best ocean swims i've been in.

Hmm...I replied to this earlier but it's not on here now.

Anyway, nice job - you are fast!  I heard a few people complaining about the swim.  One lady coming out of the water right behind me said she thought we were going against the current.  Then after the race I heard a few people saying they thought the course was probably long.  These were the type of people, unlike me, who know almost exactly what their time for 1/4 mile should be and they were saying they were 3-4 minutes slower than normal.  Some said they thought it was 1/3 mile.

It was a beautiful morning for a swim, though!

The swim measured .41 miles on one friends Garmin and .39 on another. Regardless, the conditions were a close to perfect as could could imagine. It's a fun race, but I thought they really cheaped out this year by only awarding the first place finisher....especially since it was the 20th anniversary of the race.
