Comments:

three years of doing this race - three years of timing problems. My initial results came back as a 13:51 for 400m. I forgot that I got out and took a nap on the pool deck. I emailed and they said it did seem off. Apparently my timing chip didnt start so I was given a time from the gun start until I hit T1 resulting in a big time. They went back and tried to estimate what they thought it should be. They said they think it is 7:15 (based on a gap of timing chips starting). So that is what I have to go with. I feel like that should be have a little faster but what are you going to do? I was seeded in the first fifty and passed two people so I was in the right space. Passed two people on the way to T1 (they were walking - what sillies)
What would you do differently?:

start my chip
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

got my long sleeve shirt on easy - got my socks (damp from rain) and shoes on then wasted 20 secs wrestling with my jacket. At that point I said it is that cold and dropped the jacket on the ground and went
What would you do differently?:

dont mess with the jacket
Bike
  • 42m 4s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 18.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Lots of sustained low grade up hills and down hills. Dropped my chain on an uphill portion which is not where you want to drop a chain. Biking is still not a good area for me. Guess I should probably see an expert about it to make sure my positioning isnt preventing me from doing more. I felt pretty good about keeping breathing in check and whatnot. Not great but I didnt expect much based on historical results.
What would you do differently?:

dont drop the chain
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

did not do my regular dismount because I hadnt practiced it since last year and it was wet. Instead I tried to kill my self by stopping then dismounting and still almost managing to fall over.
What would you do differently?:

do the flying dismount - at least failure is more impressive this way
Run
  • 20m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

It felt awesome. Wasnt too sure on how this would pan out given the 3 month + hiatus from running and the limited amount of running in the last month. But I was chewing up people all through the course. I got stuck behind two guys in the turnaround area, passed them and they hung for a bit and then I didnt have anyone even close ahead or behind for the last mile (a little weird for a 5k). Finished well. A PR for a sprint distance and I think a PR for 5k overall
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walking around, getting my wet clothes off, finding out I didnt bring underwear, cheering people commando

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing - this was a fun early season test

Event comments:

timing issues still stink

swim = average
bike = a little disappointed but had some mitigating circumstances
run = great - very surprised

Weather was more pleasant that I expected although it got worse as the morning went on.
