Swim
Comments: I'm not entirely sure what happened here. I felt good swimming and saw a lot of caps of the wave in front of me, so I thought I was swimming quite quickly and well, but I suppose I went out too easy. Only drafted for a few brief sections, but was happy to have a lot of water to myself, especially given how tight I stayed to the bouys. Navigation was near perfect, I think. Some chop in the water, and took a mouthful or two. Also took one good kick in the jaw about 3/4 of the way through. Water was cold, and I got a cramp in my calf toward the end. Haven't cramped swimming in over a year, so I'm guessing this was a product of the cold water. What would you do differently?: Swim a little faster, maybe try harder to draft more. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit got stuck on my ankle something awful. Frozen hands from the swim and I just couldn't get it off. Must have been at least 20 seconds, maybe more like a minute struggling with that. Will practice this. Bike
Comments: Felt great on the bike... felt fast and strong and happy to be biking. Passed a lot of folks, but I didn't know at the time that was because most of the strong athletes beat me out of the water by several minutes. Hammered up some hills, which may have been a bit too aggressive... probably could've used some of that leg strength on the run. 24oz gatorade and 8oz water ran out ~2/3 way through. Would've taken a gel with 10min left on the bike if I'd had water left. What would you do differently?: More fluid, a little less powering up hills. Transition 2
Comments: Lot of mud to run through. What would you do differently?: Will work on getting into and out of shoes attached to pedals. Run
Comments: Felt awfully weak starting out. Pace didn't change much over the course of the run, but I felt more like myself as a runner in the second lap. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder in the beginning trusting that I'd get my rhythm eventually. Post race
Warm down: pizza and gatorade What limited your ability to perform faster: Complete lack of high intensity training this spring (IM base building). Last updated: 2011-02-10 12:00 AM

Breakfast @ t - 4h: 3 slices toast, 1 w/jelly, 2 w/almond butter and jelly. This may have been just a little bit on the light side.
Couple cups of coffee, stopped drinking at t - 2.5h, which was perfect... last coffee pee right as I got in the water to warmup.
Set up in the rain was pretty miserable.
I was disorganized in the rain and didn't get fully setup until about 20min before race started. Jogged for a couple minutes, then got in the cold water to equilibrate and swam for 5 or 10 minutes.
