Sometime between 7 hrs and 15 hrs   Right now I just want to finish and be healthy.  I hate trying to stick to a goal time because I always push it too hard if I'm having a bad day.  What works for me is looking at the clock half way through the run and figuring out what I can do from there.

That sounds like a good way to plan it. I'm worried about getting too set on the time and then bonking. Since it's my first ultra, I don't know what to expect, really.

My first 140.6 too.  When I did my first 70.3, I had goal times for all events.  The swim was non-wetsuit (Florida 70.3) and a washing machine.  I came in 10 minutes over what I wanted, so I tried making time up on the bike.  Was doing good till mile 40, then started to have hamstring/knee issues.  Ended up walking most of the run.

My second 70.3 (timberman) went much better.  I got out of the swim 1 minute later, then hit the bike.  I started doing the math at the mile markers and "banking" time I needed to hit my split.  When I got to the run, I knew I'd hit my goal time.  But the run was going much better and after the half way, I figured I could come in under 30 minutes of my goal time.  Kept the pace steady and didn't push it.

I did that on a few sprint races this year too.  I've learned to hold back a tad on the bike since the run is my strength.  We'll see how it works out for this race.

I am staying 30 minutes out in DE, I waited too long to try and book a room closer. Me and family will be getting in on Friday early afternoon.

My first ultra as well, my goal range is 12 - 15 hours, even with the leg. Without the leg injury I had a reach goal of 11 hours. I did Mooseman and Timberman. Mooseman was first half ever, not nearly enough trianing finished in 5:55, last year did the Timberman - had the same leg injury due to raising mileage in bike n run too fast, finished in 5:50. Both races are awesome and I recommend them to everyone I know.

I hate tapering, always have. This year I do not think I built enough to have a good taper, but I have cut down everything. Had my last outside ride today, felt real good, forced myself to stay under 20mph for total ride, ended up with a 18mph average.

Stratman, I will be one of the guys without a wetsuit.

I am going to pack my stuff tomorrow - nutrition supplies, body glide, glasses, socks & sneakers - running gear, etc.

Zuk, there were a lot of us that do hempfield that were at timberman last year. Bryan who got 2nd at hempfield went 4:31. I did 4:58 but had the perfect race. Had an asthma attack this year at hempfield...learned to take the inhaler with me.Got the race gear out and took the bike for a spin. Cant believe the race is close. Gonna start packing tomorrow and get a swim in the wetsuit.

temps should be fine for an ultra, I am hoping any storm will hold off until we get swim in.

Storms on friday could make swim nicer, you know the calm after a storm, might keep jellies away also Yell

Bike times will change if we have a storm, portions of road will have laying water.

Run, umm, walk should be fine rain or shine, those running will appreciate overcast.

Lets all hope the humidity stays low.

I really like that race, great early season event, that is put together so well, its just a long drive for me. We always make it a shopping day after.

Yeah, it was me and another guy Jarrod (I had the bright green/black tri suit on).

I'll take the light showers.  It worked out perfect at Timberman last year.

Any of you planning to go to Athletes dinner or swim Friday morning?

Any desire to do a BT meet up at swim Friday at 8am?

Last year there was water like flooded road across the road in two spots after you go over the small bridge probably ~10-15 miles from finish of the main loop. It was flooded for me loop 1 but much less loop 2. I figured it was tide based. Anyone know if that is typical?

Does anyone know if there is an athlete tracker for this race? A few of my friends and family would like to keep an eye on my performance if possible. Good luck on Saturday everyone!

Kathy that is definitely tidal, it was that way when I rode there in august. I also think if we get a lot of rain on friday there will be more laying water on the course.

It would be nice if there were a tracker, but I do not think there is one.

I cant meet up until Friday afternoon, I am not leaving here until Friday morning.

I would say best of luck but we have all trained to our best so, have a great raceLaughing

So I am not going to make the race meeting, but when racking bike, I heard that the course had up to 6 inches at one section - it has to be the one that is about 10 miles out from the HS.

I am staying in Seaford and decided there was no way I was driving back. What a day, drove down in what can only be described as a monsoon. It was nice when I got over to packet pick-up, then dropped the bike and the skies open again.

Got to hotel and of course discovered that I left 1 bag at home, not critically important only had throw away flip flops and tshirt for preswim, and a container of Fizz.

Ready for some sleep for the big day.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow. If you see me dragging on the run, pull me along.

How'd it go everyone?

I was stung 2x by jellyfish, got a flat 2' into bike, sliced my foot in parallel lines on the swim, but pleased with how I did with what I had today. Fastest ride time in IM ever and last 56 miles were fastest I've ever done in a race.

Won Athena AquaVelo

Way to go Kathy, that is impressive.

I was stung 3 times. I am pleased with my race. I had an ok swim, a little to slow out but respectable. I could not get comfortable on first loop of ride at all, the second loop I destroyed, averaged 19.?? for total ride.

I did what I could on run, I ran every half mile, the leg really started to ache for last loop and walked most of it.

What a great day with some great people.

Great work Zuker and Kathy G.....i actually used the Sea safe lotion and put plenty on before the race and came out the swim without any stings...though heard alot of people really got stung multiple times....I had a good race and just happy to have finished my 1st IM and I even got in under 13 hours....iI especially loved the river I had to bike through ...haha

Race went well for me, although when I left last night they hadn't updated my marathon time yet. I went 1:10 on the swim which is good for me. I averaged 20.5 on the bike which felt easy until the last hour. The marathon was hell, and I think I did it in a little over 5 hours. I believe my overall time was 11:54 which I'm very happy with considering this was my first IM distance tri.

Does anyone know when the results will be posted online?
