Pre-race routine:

Just realized I had a bunch of draft race reports I never completed, so better late than never....

Drove up the morning of the race.
Event warmup:

10 minute running warm-up with a few strides, then about a 5 minute swim warm-up.
Swim
  • 05m 52s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

Went with a medium/hard pace in order to not get totally exhausted, but probably could have gone faster.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Need to work on taking off my wetsuit. I sat down to take off wetsuit without pulling it down as far as I could and stepping on it first.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions (I keep saying I will, but don't seem to get around to it)
Bike
  • 40m 39s
  • 15 miles
  • 22.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice ride, though I was passed by 7-8 guys in my wave. Played leapfrog with one guy most of the way. Weather was nice, minimal breeze, and course is fairly flat, so bike ride was really enjoyable. Started dreading the run towards the end of the bike. Felt like I was going faster than avg speed. Need to push a little harder next time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Decent transition time for me. Only put on 1 knee brace instead of my usual 2.
Run
  • 20m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Hurt like hell. Started at a medium pace, got stuck behind slower runner while going near the finish line after the initial loop thru the park so I had to run even slower for 20 yds, though I enjoyed the break at the time. Passed 5-6 guys in my wave and felt a physical burst of energy after each one I passed, not just a mental lift. Saw one more guy in my wave I wanted to pass near the end, but couldn't quite catch him (finished 1 second behind).
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limited running early in the season due to time off from injuries.

Event comments:

Nice size local race that's a fairly fast and flat course.
