I got to Idylwood Park (It is AMAZING how much better this park is maintained), and sucked it up and got in...and after a minute or two, I was fine.  It was great.  I wasn't planning on swimming but just getting submerged.  After a minute or two, I decided to swim the bouys that mark no-boats.  It ended up being about 1/3 of a mile.

Just beware of the grumpy old dude that lives near there.  He'll call the cops on morning swimmers for random reasons.

Medusa_Ann - 2011-06-09 9:30 AM Mr. Crampy's multisport is putting on another free clinic at Beaver Lake on Sunday 9-11 AM. I went a couple of weeks ago and it was great!  90 minutes in the water, with coaching and tons of great race scenario practice.  I'm going to the one again on Sunday, although may do more swimming and less coaching, as they are setting up some additional buoys.  It's nice, they have paddle board, buoys, kayaks and really great coaches.... you should check it out!

a few questions on this, if I show up will I have to get coaching, or can I just swim with people to watch over me? Also is a wetsuit required still (per water temp) or is just a swimsuit and swim cap ok? (I ask as my wife does not own a wetsuit but is interested in doing a sprint in August - she is fine swimming in open water but need practice in things like navigating, which most people need help with I would guess)

I forgot to check in again. Went swimming in Lake Tapps down south on Sunday and with a full wetsuit it felt perfect. Swam a mile before I ran out of time. There have been plenty of people in Greenlake every day, so I'll join them tomorrow morning. Thanks for the tip about the group swim Sunday. That may be worth a drive for me! Anyone else doing the RTB Friday night swim next week?

where do you swim from on Tapps. Since moving to Puyallup I have been looking for a lake to swim in but was not sure of the good spots down here. I was just going to hit Lake Meridian in Kent for my swims, if not slogging all the way to Samammish or Seward park.

5-Mile Lake is a favorite of mine.

Meeting at Beaver Lake Park, correct?

I haven't even been in the water since the Bonney Lake Tri last September...

Allan Yorke Park at the south end is great. My usual swimming spot. A 250yd bouy cable demarking the swimming area to follow, facilities, secure parking, and the venue for the Labor of Love Tri. Hmmm, been away too long, have to get back to this tri thing I enjoy so much. I should see if the wetsuit still fits, darn things shrink when not worn.

Finally got in today. It was colder than I expected but got used to it and was comfortable sooner than I thought I would.

I would second Allen Yorke Park, although I have only heard of others swimming there.  I'm lucky in that my mom lives on the lake, so I swim off her dock.
