Veteran 193  |  Subject: I am so hooked....On Saturday (5-14-11) I did my first sprint triathlon, Tri Rock Annapolis. I completed the race in 1:53:39, which was only 5 minutes slower than I had projected. As I crossed the finish line, all I kept thinking was, that was great, and when can I do this again. The weather was wet and cold and the swim for me was rough, but it was the most fun I have had in a race in a long time. I found the atmosphere of the pre race transition area electrifying. Even though I knew no one at the race there was someone to talk to, everyone was so friendly. I used to just run, and started cycling just to mix things up. Since I enjoyed both so much I figured why not swim. I can see why this is such an addictive sport. I still have so much to learn, and things to work on, but working towards a faster time will give my workouts new meaning. |

It's always fun to try to improve and beat your old race times, but one of the most enjoyable aspects of multisport is the people! I've developed some of the closest friendships of my life from triathlon and cycling, and I'm sure you'll find the same thing. Try to get plugged into a team or training group. It really does make training and racing more fun when you meet up with familiar faces! |

I'm happy to say I have 3 sprint tris under my belt now, and I have two more on the calendar this year. My next race is Tri Rock San Diego. Hoping to conquer an Olympic next season (but oh goodness, the swim!!) |

I got bit by the bug last september after my first tri and have been hooked ever since. I heard Tri Rock was a good race, but bad weather. What part of MD do you live in? There are some Tri clubs throughout the area which might be worth looking into. I joined a club by me a few months ago and the structured practices and advice from more experienced athletes has been very beneficial to me. Good luck with your training and the rest of your season and again, congrats on finishing your first tri! |
