Subject: Races around Montreal

Hello All,

I was wondering if some-one could share experience on triathlons events  in the Montreal area (within  2hours driving from the North Shore). I've been scouting the BT calendar and triathlon quebec site for events, and browsed some of the associated web sites, but I found it hard to get a feel.

Some of the factors I consider are the location and the atmosphere

I realize it is a very subjective question, so there is no good or bad answers, just looking for personal feedbacks.

Merci!

These are the ones I did

I find Tremblant is the nicest. It's in June. Good swim, great bike, good run, although some hills. Very well organized

Esprit is in September. It's fast, well organized but not as nice/fun as Tremblant

Valleyfield is good. The swim is nice, the roads suck the run is good.  Good ambiance

Verdun is alright. The swim in the river is yucky, the roads sucks and the run is good. Good ambiance.

Soulanges was ok, but am not sure they do it this year.

Tremblant is $15 more before June 6th and $5 less after June 6th. Well worth it in my opinion. Once you factor in gas, time.....a few bucks more or less is peanuts. It's the ambiance, organization and course that counts. Tremblant is top notch for that.

Thanks for the feedback.

For Tremblant, is it realistic to plan NOT to have a wetsuit at this time of year? I've been browsing the web sites of the other events and looks like it is manageable without one.

I did it twice and no, a wetsuit was a must. I suspect this year will be as bad since weather has sucked.

You can rent wetsuits if you want. Boutique Courir and others do rent.

Hi Marc,

just back from Mt-Tremblant (park) and I see exactly what you mean!!!

Thanks for the advice, I bought my running shoes @ Boutique Courir,  great service.

By the way, looked at your race log and congratulations for your latest one, very impressive.

I did Cornwall lastyear and it is a great course. I plan on doing it again.

Good luck and happy training,

Thanks Eddie!

I did scout myself for 2012 based on the triathon quebec web site.  Also looked the courir.org and circuitendurance.ca to build my own shortlist. I heard good thinks about Cornwall, so right now it is a definite maybe :-)

Would you mind sharing your more complete list?

Here's what I am contemplating (wish I had the fitness and the cash to do them all Tongue out)

Don't forget all the Somersault Events....http://somersault.ca/eventottawarivertridu.htm

Did this one last year and it was really fun!  All their event are VERY well organized and it is kid-friendly (which is a bonus for Endurance-Moms!)

All Ironman (full and 70.3) events at Tremblant are long sold out, but it is an very nice course and well organized event to keep in mind for future.

Have fun!
