Pre-race routine:

This was my first race, so I did good getting my bike ready, transitions laid out, etc.
Event warmup:

Did walk around a bit, stretched very little because I usually stretch after a complete workout anyway. And two days later I'm not very sore.
Swim

Course/swim was a lot easier than I thought. Except for a brief feeling of panic and getting kicked in the head twice, it was great.
What would you do differently?:

Work on swim. I ended up second in my age group and was freaking out that if I dropped the freestyle too early, I would be last. About a third of the way through, I went to breast stroke and came out middle of the pack. First event, pretty good.
Transition 1

Comments:

My first transition ever and I did okay. Had the most problems with my shirt and with getting bike shorts on. Will dry legs off first next time. I just can't get to the point of swimming in my bike shorts.
What would you do differently?:

Get a new shirt. The tank I chose was good aerodynamically, but it was a pain to pull on. Got stuck on my swim top, rolled up a bit.

Loved the lack of traffic. Sections of the course were around Lake Blackshear, others by fields. Nice scenery. At my level, I figured it was okay to enjoy the route. If you can't enjoy it, why ride?
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to properly shift gears. Practice the distance a bit more, instead of relying on hills to do the job.

Not worry about shoes.

Good. Legs didn't ever feel like jelly, unusual.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace. Don't accept a full bottle of gatorade from volunteers too lazy to pour it into cups.

Walking, walking, walking and some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It was my first race. We'll see how much better I do next time. Other than that, I need to train a little farther out and improve my free style, biking, running skills.
