Subject: took the elevator instead of stairs...and feeling guilty about iit

Since I started doing triathlons, 4 years ago, I have made a point of taking stairs instead of elevators, and today, well, I blew it. Did a hard run last night, legs were a bit sore, 6 levels, a bit pushed for time, so I took the easy way. Its not a biggie but as I drove away, I just had the pang of guilt....shoulda taken the stairs man.

Anybody else have a little"guilty" secret?

The guilt you have is nothing......for trainer rides in the basement, I have a "Barbie Girl" pandora station on my iphone that I listen to. One hour of pure bubblegum pop with no nutritional value whatsoever

I always take the elevator.   Gotta save the legs for the big workouts ;^).

You should always conserve as much energy as possible in order to perform at the maximum for your workouts.    "Why run when you can walk? Why walk when you can stand? Why stand when you can sit? Why sit when you can lay down?  Why lay down when you can sleep?"

If takeing the elevators the worst thing you done in the workout, not workout world, I wouldn't feel too guilty about it.

I feel "shameful" when I park too close to the front door of my fitness center when I go there to swim, I can get in a "warm up jog" if I park in the back 40... ha ha yeah right...

I never feel bad about it.  I work out when I'm scheduled to work out and for me that's enough.  When not scheduled I could care less about taking the stairs or taking the space at the far end of parking lots.  Feeling guilty about not doing more could be a never ending cycle since you can always add to your current volume.  I'm just glad that I enjoy being as active as I currently am.  Then again, Honey badger don't care.  Honey badger don't give a &%@!

I don't feel guilty about taking the elevator if I am too tired. Call me a tree hugger, but I feel guilty about the wasted mechanical energy of using the elevator. No such guilt about escalators.

Nope ..  Like Rodney Carrington said.  "If you feeling guilty, drink some bourbon.  It'll rub that $**t out"

x2

I only have to go up or down 3 floors at work.  My decision to take the elevator is based on my patience.  If the elevator on the floor I'm on, and going in the direction I'm going...I'll take it.  Otherwise I use the stairs.  Has nothing to do with being lazy or burning more calories.  Like in a race...my goal is to get to the "finish line" as quickly as possible.

I typically have a 2 floor rule.  If its more than 2 floors I take the elevator.  No guilt.

I always took the stairs (9 floors) in the parking garage at work. I got a bad high ankle sprain coming down one day. It took weeks to heal. Now I always take the elevator.

Unless someone comes up with a tri that involves stairs, I am limiting my runs to flat ground.

I've always used the stairs, even before I started triathlons.  My current office is on the 4th floor of a building with unusually wide floor spacing and unusually slow elevators.  So it's a good climb, and I do it 3 - 5 times per day.

I use to even carry my bike up the stairs to my office until one day when my cleat slipped and I banged myself up pretty good while saving the bike from damage.  Now if I have my bike I'll just use elevator.
