Subject: 2007 cervelo p2sl vs 2010 cervelo p1
What are the main differences between these two frames? I am trying to decide between the two that I found on Craigslist. I have found quite a bit of information on the 2010 p1, but am having trouble finding things about the 2007 p2. Hopefully I will be checking out both bikes later in the week if the price is right. When I go, what specific things should I be looking for when examining the bike? Thanks for your input!

You want to ask questions about approximate mileage, upkeep, crashes, etc.  Hopefully the sellers will be relatively honest.   As long as the paint scheme isn't a deal killer, I would look hard for cosmetic flaws that may indicate a crash, mistreatment, or lack of maintenance.  Next look at the price.  If you have to replace a worn chain, cassette, cables, chainrings, etc, you may not be saving any money buying the less expensive older bike.  On the other hand, perhaps the owner of the 2010 rode the hell out of it and the 2007 sat in a garage for the past 4 years.

 

The P2 series is flat out awesome and will serve you well for many years to come.  I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on this model.

Cervelo makes a phenomenal bike. I would second the advice already given -- carefully inspect the bike and make sure there are not any scratches from crashes. Ask a ton of questions about the history of the frame and check the drivetrain to make sure it is clean. Hopefully it will mean that it has been kept clean through the years.
