Pre-race routine:

Got to the race, setup and waited. Not much to do. Still nursing the foot, so I didn't want to run to warm-up.
Event warmup:

Jumped in the pool and swam a quick 150 to get loosened up. Then went about finding some people with similar time estimate.
Swim
  • 09m 33s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good on the swim. Put myself in the perfect position. The two in front of me were faster than I was, and the person behind was slower. Really let me set my own pace and keep enough in the tank to push the last 150.
What would you do differently?:

I might have tried to lap the 4th place swimmer earlier. Oh and swim more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

O.k. transition. Probably should have skipped the socks. But never try something new on race day.
What would you do differently?:

Just pick up the pace.
Bike
  • 39m 13s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.36 mile/hr
Comments:

I went out hard and enjoyed the downhill at the start, but then had trouble finding my rythm on the uphill section. Second lap, I found my groove and really made up some good time.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more. I've only gotten outside on my bike twice this year. I need to remedy that situation.
Transition 2
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

Good smooth and fast transition. Felt really good coming off the bike. Got my shoes on and off I went. Carried my hat, watch and belt and put them on as I ran.

Only bad thing was that the person next to me had their bike too close to my spot, so I couldn't hang my bike. So I just layed it against the rack support legs. Worked. :)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 25m 29s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on the way out. 7:45 for the first mile. Foot was feeling o.k. Second mile foot stiffening up. Grab some water at the turn around and start to push the pace. Second mile was about 8:30 pace. Being that the last mile is all up hill, and now my foot is starting to resent me, I just focus on my time. I know I can estimate howmuch longer I have to run and incrementally increase pace as the minutes count down. Finished mile 3 at about 8:10 pace. Pushed and finshed the race strong. Foot doesn't feel too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Not run a 1/2 a couple of weeks before, lose weight, and stay healthy.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some fluids and layed down in the grass.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just haven't trained well this year. Crappy weather and busy schedule. But heck it is a hobby...

Event comments:

This is a nice local race series. Nothing more, nothing less. And you get just that. Something close, reasonably priced, and fun. Great way to start the season.

Good race Dan, hope the foot is feeling OK today...I think you were smart to go with socks based on how my feet felt without them!

Nice bike time for only being on the bike 2x this year!  Nice job!
