Swim
Comments: A minute faster than last year, but still no real training for the swim portion (a more than recurring theme for me). Transition 1
Comments: Took my time getting dryed off and everything set to avoid a mental meltdown on the bike. Bike
Comments: I felt pretty comfortable with the overall pace. The climb out of Branchport was the only real negative for me. I probably could have used some hill training prior to the race to get the muscle strength required to sustain a hard pace during climbs. The rolling hills were not a problem, just the sustain climbs. Since my workouts were consistently below 20 mph, I was happy with the average speed for the bike portion. The bike portion was 5 minutes faster than last year - probably some due to the new paving and part a harder effort. Transition 2
Run
Comments: This was probably the weakest part of my day - rightly so given the half a dozen training runs prior to the race. The first half was spent just trying to keep my feet going forward. Once I hit the turn around I found the ability to begin lengthening my stride and "picked-up" the pace. While overall I would prefer to be just under 8:00 minute/mile pace, and was just over a minute slower than last year (given last year I wanted to "push" the run - which still didn't happen), I can live with the results given the few training runs.
