Pre-race routine:

Piccked up the kids at the Smithsonian Metro then made my way to the race course. A very long walk to the race start in a cold, nasty rain.

Event warmup:

Light stretching and basically keeping up with the boss.

Comments:

I think I did an acceptable job of pacing the boss. He's 78-years old. I hope to God I'll be able to compete in anything when I'm that age.

What would you do differently?:

I wish I hadn't suggested to him we make the first mile split at 10 minutes. I think he burned himself up a bit to get there.

Post race

Warm down:

Made like a bee for the van to take everyone to the Metro and the Senator home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It had stopped raining. It was a viable day. Last years wind was far worse. I was pleased to let the kids be the rabbits while I paced the Senator.

Event comments:

This remains a neat little event. Cabinet Secretaries, judges, Members. Very neat. And for the record, John Thune finished 31st overall. He is the bomb.
