Total Time = 2h 38m 8s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Drove down with my wife and 4 daughters. Built a sand castle.
Event warmup:

First 500 meters of the swim was my warmup.
Swim
  • 2h 38m 8s
  • 7744 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Current and chop conditions shaped up to be very favorable this year. Very limited chop from the SSW which resulted in occasional waves from behind, pushing us along like body surfing on occasion. Some stronger currents around mile 2 trying to push me to the south, had to turn 90 degrees and go full throttle for a bit to avoid a DQ. After the Mile 2 marker, though, I got dead center in between the bridges and stayed for the rest of the swim. At times it was almost lake-smooth and easy to get into an easy relaxed rhythm. Had my training started earlier in the year, I might have set a PR this year, but otherwise it was just a nice (long) swim.

I'd like to do this event in 2 years. Any advice for a landlocked swimmer on getting ready for this particular swim?

How many signed up this year?

hey, very nice job.  glad to see someone else thought that bit before mile 2 was stronger than expected.

you don't know me, but thanks for all of the help...  I read all of your previous race reports and it really helped with strategy.

maybe next year I'll finish before the weather.
