Nice work everyone, sounds like everyone made it through the day mostly unscathed.  I didn't realize the failure rate was so high on the Westernport Wall but man after some of those videos you really see it!

The only improvement I would make is that it would have been nice to have a target to shoot my bottles at.  @ Eagleman last year they had goalie nets up about 50 feet in front of the aid stations.  While nets aren't a necessity, just a sign or an area that I could chuck a water bottle at without alarming volunteers/spectators would be nice.  I'm one of those people that tries to leave as little on the course as possible, trash in the boxes at the aid stations (not on the ground) so just chucking a water bottle anywhere doesn't sit well with me.  I slowed down and swapped bottles at very low speed with volunteers instead because quite frankly it was nice to have a short 5 second break.

Other than that, I had a blast and you really have to respect this course.  My wife was volunteering and she spoke to a lady who said that she's done IMLP and SavageMan and SavageMan was way harder.  There's a reason that they called it the hardest triathlon in the world, because damnit it is!

Nice job, everyone!

I probably won't get to my race reports until this weekend, because I'm a bit slammed here at work.  But in short:

I finished the 30.0 in 2:35:14, which is 30th overall and 3rd in my AG.

I finished the 70.0 in 6:09:18, which is 93rd place overall, 14th in my AG.

This year I was 11:07 minutes slower than last year.  I think  it was a combination of racing the day before, being generally less fit, and a little bit of extra wind.  I also did not get a brick this year.  I was wobbly at the top of the wall, and a guy rode right in front of me.  I hesitated to not hit him for a split second, and couldn't stay up.  Fortunately, I just planted my foot, and didn't fall.

Thanks everyone for good tips posted here.  I've got the brick (quite easily on my compact/28) and finished the race with #99 overall (6:12:26) and #16 in my AG (M40-45).

Very very nice race.  I loved swimming in Deep Creek Lake.  I am stunned by bike course views and hills.  The running was quite boring, but I think this is because my legs were cramping.

I am now thinking whether I want to repeat SM 70 next year or do full IM (Wisconsin).

I think the Secret Service may have had something to say if I tried to show him my brick.
