Pre-race routine:

I figured I should join the party with my first race report. Woke up at 5:15. Forced down half of a bagel and peanut butter at the race site. Got all of the gear set up and ready to go.
Event warmup:

Ran about 1 mile, with some race-pace strides. Rode the bike for about 3 miles, with some race-pace efforts. Set up the transition and went down to water. Did a few drills, sculling, and race-paced swimming. Got out of water and stretched.
  • 12m 35s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards

Included about 150yds up a sandy beach. Went better than I expected given the volume of swim training. I have not been able to swim much because of my swim coaching responsibilities, but surprised myself with the time. Was quite tired and sore by the end. I did not make any horrific mistakes with my navigation, but was constatnly going towards the right.
What would you do differently?:

Swim straighter, train more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 48s

I dinked around too long putting my Garmin on. After I pulled off my first flying mount. It went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out a better way for the Garmin.
  • 54m 5s
  • 18 miles
  • 19.97 mile/hr

Did not go as well as I had hoped. I've been on a tri bike for the first time for the last 3 weeks. I think a combination of increased cycling volume, new bike, new position, and general fatigue may have caused it. Or I simply am not good at cycling.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Transition 2
  • 00m 36s

Went very well. I'm happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

  • 30m 50s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 43s  min/mile

Went better than I hoped; my Garmin recorded 4.12 miles at 7:30, so I was quite happy with that. I have been running a lot the past 6 months and I think it is starting to pay off.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Water, powerade, and towels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Event comments:

Overall I was quite happy. I beat my best time, from last year, by 10 minutes. I think I'm heading in the right direction, as long as the bike comes together.

Great job! I love this race and hated that I missed it this year! The run is always what gets me, it is usually so dang hot!

Getting the garmin on in T1 is costing me some time as well.  I'm thinking about getting the bike mount kit for mine, so I can just snag it off for the run.
