I am unable to join you Friday, but would absolutely join you on a Saturday ride in he future. I am new to the area and still mapping out long distance rides close to my place. This would be perfect for me. What route are you taking?

Sounds Great!  Usually I do 9W from Stoney Point to GWB and back.  I come from the north so that is easier for me...but can meet farther south as well.

I'll post the next time we do a ride....but on weekends this route has TONS of bikes on it so I'm sure you could hook up with a pack or two...

I keep hearing about 9W, but it looks heavily traveled with vehicles and not much of a shoulder right outside of west point. I will drive down to bear mountain and check it out one of these afternoons.

Its a lot better south of Bear mountain.  Just a few parts are ugly...but overall its a great route.  I also like the Harriman loop.   14 miles around the main loop with the big hill and woods to mix it up a bit.

I just did the Harriman loop this past weekend.  Lake Welch Parkway climb (which is BRUTAL) down to 7 Lakes Dr.  down to Tiorati Circle, make a right and ride some fun rollers, followed by the Tiorati descent.  We did it twice and then took 7 Lakes Dr. all the way down to Bear Mountain.  7 Lakes Dr. is such a beautiful, beautiful road.  Here are a few pics I took while riding it.  And the climb up to to the top of Bear Mountain on Perkins Rd is legit!!

I love that park!  Hit it at the right time and you can S/B/R  all in one spot!  Interest fact...if you go down the big hill and up through the woods...the elevation change is the same!  So in theory...it doesn't matter which way you go...but always seems going up the hill is worse than going through the woods!

Yea Jennie! Yep a lot of things are more fun with more mess! I'm sure it will be fine and I'm double sure that regardless of mess or not it will be the same amount of pain!

I'm working through the course videos I took last weekend....here is another segment:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1V984NobMg

This is the George Washington Bridge (GWB) from the NYC side to the NJ side. On the right of the video is the pedestrian walkway. On race day the run will be coming from the NJ side to the NYC side...so the opposite direction of the video....Notice the stairs over the exit ramp....thats nothing compared to the hill climb from the T area up to that point... so don't worry about them.

ps the only real reason I got this was because I got lost trying to find the Northbound Palisades entrance and ended up going over the GWB. Now I know why the bike course will use the southbound lanes of the Palisades....easy entrance!

BTW, I shot all this in 1080P HD and will be creating a speed corrected (down to ~20 mph with elevation data) full bike course dvd.
