Anyone else doing this race. I am driving in from Virginia to visit friends at their cottage at they said I should try this race. Do most people wear wet suits? Any idea what the water temp is currently?

 Thanks,

Dan

This will be my first Tri.  I rented a wetsuit.  Here are the current temps.

I'll be there with bells on.

RE:  Wetsuit - As I grew up there, yes, I would recommend having a wetsuit available.  Reason being, if the wind picks up, the water could very easily 'turn over' during the over night hours.  There is a deep hole about 1/2 mile off shore from the park which obviously holds cold water.

Last year, Friday water temp:  76

Saturday AM I was told 70, not to mention the 2 foot white caps.

Enjoy the race, it is fantastically run!

This will be my second year the the DC sprint.  Last year I had a sleeveless wetsuit and it was good enough for the sprint.  Also, the incoming waves might be a little intimidating, but they only last for the first 100 yards.

On a side note, my favorite point last year was the food and two beers for all competitors.  Two big beers....

Thanks for the temp info. I may not wear my sleeveless if it is 75 or above. I didn't think about waves so thanks for mentioning that possibility. The website says that they have volunteers to help you get your wetsuit off after exiting the water. What exactly do they do to help?

I am already looking forward to the beer.

Wetsuit 'Strippers'.....essentially, you will exit the water on a carpet mat, and if you choose, lay down and the volunteers will pull the wetsuit off from waist down.  I used it last year, great service.  To each their own, if you want to finish taking it off on your own at your station.  The Medical Tent is right there as well, so if a swimmer is struggling coming out, they can assess right then and there.

Early weather forecast is calling for SE winds, and if that is true, we should be in good shape that morning...light chop at best.  But, as I have learned with DC, never trust the forecasts.

Great race. I am doing the sprint and the HIM relay. Water temps depend on the wind direction. I don't think I have ever had a cold swim at DC. I have swam in 3-4 foot waves. Thus, I always wear a wetsuit.

It is a super flat fast course. You will enjoy it. It is my favorite race of the season!!
