Pre-race routine:

This race is about fun. Got there about 5:30 and helped set up transition. It was slow at first, but I think we came up with a good layout in the end.
Event warmup:

This is where it got fun. I went and registered for the race today. This is the first time I have done a race day sign up.

Comments:

I was holding back just a little here. Was not sure how much would be in the tank with the training I have been having. Caught some decent feet early and often on the way up stream. Different story on the way back, but not as important
What would you do differently?:

Not much, held my own in the field as a quick look shows me in about the top 1/2 of the field overall in the sprint distance. Very happy with this.
Transition 1

Comments:

I had not been on the bike in over a week due to a minor injury, so I held back here. No running getting to the bike, and just not in too much of a hurry.

Comments:

This was quite fun. For starters, the time includes T1 and the bike. I again was holding back, just because I could. Got passed multiple times, but ended up doing the tag game with a woman who could not quite drop me. She had me on overall speed and climbs, but was missing some technique on transitioning from down to up hills and cornering. I made up a bunch of time on her with the technical part of the ride. Ended up setting up a final pass on the last turn of the bike. I knew she would go slow and tight and I blew right past her. Just felt good to actually race someone for something.

Comments:

Nothing great here. Well out of practice, and just enjoying the day

Comments:

The T2 Times are in this section of time. I went into this race with walking planned. I have not been able to push off my right foot for almost 2 weeks, so this was all about the USAT points. Broke into a light run out of transition. Got a rhythm going for the first mile. Felt quite strong on mile two and was faster than mile one. Not quite sure why, but distances could be messed up with a possible false flat or two mixed in.
What would you do differently?:

I am very proud of this effort as I never walked any of it. I was even able to pull together a sprint to the line as I got chicked by an oly distance runner about 30 feet from the finish.

Event comments:

This race had a little added bonus for me. Sen. Scott Brown was racing today. I could really care less about the fame factor. A lot of my team mates posed for pictures. I was interested in how good he was, what kind of gear he used, and how he treated people on the whole. He is a very good triathlete, finishing 3rd overall in the sprint. Rides a trek which is good in my book, and was very friendly to everyone. Ok, so now I can say I have taken a beating from a US senator in a triathlon. Never thought that would be something I could say. I guess it is more fun to say I raced with him though ;)

Hi Joe

Sounds like you had a great race!

I did this race a few years ago on a deathly hot day.  I will never swim in the Merrimack Rive again (I know what goes in there).  The run was aweful -- about 95 degrees and no shade.

Cool that Sen. Brown showed up.  I've been procrastinating signing up for races and two of them have sold out!
