Overall Rank = 115/421

Age Group Rank = 15/35
Pre-race routine:

Diet and sleep for the few days leading up to this triathlon were not the best. Felt like I ate and drank too much for the 3 nights prior. Ate out twice and had company over on Friday night. Only had 5.5 hours of sleep on Saturday night. I did drink plenty of water on Saturday though, so at least I started well hydrated.
Event warmup:

Light stretching. 5 min EZ run and 5 min EZ swim.
Swim
  • 25m 54s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt great. I felt like my sighting was great. A large group of swimmers took off far to the right of the buoys and were all over the place. I headed right for the far buoy and didn't stray. I lost one swimmer who took off way ahead of me and stayed there. I think there was one person drafting off me almost the whole swim that I had no idea was there until the end when she passed me very close on my right side. She tried the pass a couple hundred yards from the finish and I ended up finishing in front of her.
What would you do differently?:

Use more lube under my arms. I got a little bit of a rash. Overall, swim went awesome.
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Dropped my goggles while removing my cap and goggles. That cost me a few seconds. There is about a 200m run from the swim finish to the transition area.

I also was a little clumsy clipping into my pedals. Other than that, transition was nice and fast.
What would you do differently?:

Be more careful when removing goggles.
Bike
  • 1h 17m 58s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.12 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt good. Spent a lot of time on my tri bars. It was a good effort by me. I felt like I was standing still though when the faster competitors went by me.
What would you do differently?:

Still just need more saddle time. I think I want to get a compu-trainer to work with over the winter.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Transition time looks fast, but I lost at least 10 seconds by going to the wrong rack at first.
What would you do differently?:

Next time, I think I am going to walk the transition area from swim in, and then from bike in so that I know what I am looking for.
Run
  • 59m 28s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

It was crazy hot! The first 2 miles were absolute misery. I didn't think that I was going to be able to keep going. I felt better during miles 3 and 4 and then hit the wall again. mile 5 was rough and then mile 6 I was almost done! I actually held a decent pace considering the heat.
What would you do differently?:

I think I did the best I could considering the heat.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor diet and beverage choices leading up the event.

Event comments:

This was a well organized event. It was very spectator friendly and a lot of fun. I think I will be back next year.
