Subject: WWCOJ do? Protocol question

A litle background:

I am  heading out to Penticton on Thursday to do an Ironman camp for IM Canada. It is a long day drive from my hometown. I am driving out with and splitting a hotel room for 3 nights with one of my teammates.

He and I have known each other for ~2 years, but it's not like we are super close.

Anyhow, Do i offer to drive part of it? When he is driving, can i read a book? IPOD? Sleep? what are my responsibilities for this 7-8 hr day?

Wait until you're in the middle of nowhere (shouldn't be hard in Canada), kill him, steal his car and run away to Mexico with his bike.

No more than saying "when you get tired of driving let me know, I'll be glad to".  After 3-4 hrs check to see if he wants you to spell him.  That's it.  You should pay for 75% of the gas if you take his car.

ask if he would like you to drive when he looks tired.

small talk if needed

discuss camp if worried

sleep/work/read if you want.

to me this is more like a business trip than a social/vacation type of trip so keep it business casual for a trip.

I had to drive 4hrs to a conference w/a co-worker several years ago. We had hung out together some but weren't close friends. He brought his iPod with a bunch of stand-up comedy on it. That made it an easy drive. . . until a Joe Rogan bit started getting really bromantic. After that it was nice that the hotel gave us a suite w/separate sleeping areas.

I'd say the first part of the trip do the small talk thing and get to know him a little better.  Then if things get boring you can bust out the ipod or book if he doesn't mind.
