Overall Rank = 106/288

Age Group Rank = 23/46
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early, as always, stretched a bit and had my Clif Bar, G2 and 5hr energy. Loaded the car and headed out with Kym and Devyn as my cheering squad. Got parked, met up with Steve Pilon in transition, set up my T space and thought about Go-time.
Event warmup:

Light stretching, got into the water a bit early for about 250m swim.
Swim
  • 31m 45s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 07s / 100 meters
Comments:

I call this a good swim, perhaps my best ever in competition. My pace was good, still had sighting and navigation issues, but I was moving well and finished ahead of where I planned. First time experience with wetsuit peelers, and that went fine and was greatly appreciated.
What would you do differently?:

Better navigation
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Good T1 for me overall. I had no issues and moved along quickly, so I am happy with transition. Having my wetsuit peeled off for me really helped as well.

We set up our transition stations strategically closer to the bike out/in so that we would have shorter to go with our bike shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 12m 4s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 20.65 mile/hr
Comments:

Awesome ride for me. To average 20+ mph for the entire ride was incredible. I felt strong and kept in higher gears most of the way, and found myself out of the saddle hammering the bridges and short uphill portion of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing that I can think of.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Another great transition for me. I was out of my shoes on the last turn of the bike course, and ran my bike into transition and got it racked quickly. My running shoes went on like a flash, and I was on the move running in no time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 54m 15s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

A bit slower than I had hoped (this is a recurring theme for me on the run these days). I am not sure why I slow down on the run, my legs feel fine and I have the stamina and strength to push harder. The run was not bad, and I passed Steve Pilon half way through the first lap, which made the competitive side of me very happy and energetic. No walking, it was all run, and I finished strong.
What would you do differently?:

Faster, faster, faster
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with Kym and Devyn, and talked to Steve Pilon and others in the chute while hydrating post-race. Watched Todd and Wade come in and gave them a congrats as well. Ate some chow and headed home for a shower and relaxation.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just the run. I was happy overall, but still scratch my head that I do not pound the run like I have in the past.

Event comments:

I really enjoy Red Rock Sports and their events - top notch all the way through.
