Pre-race routine:

Got transition set up. Hung around and watched the junior talent competition. Suited up with the help of my wife and made my way over to the swim start with the rest of my group.

Comments:

Started out on the outside near the middle of the pack. Let the competition get the better of me and swam the pace of the pack. About half of the way down the first stretch I seemed to take in a lot of water and could tell my HR was way up. Decided to breast stroke to get back under control. Justin passed me and we exchanged a few words. After calming down I swam the rest of the swim at my own pace and felt much better. I was really happy with my sighting, felt spot on the whole time.

Comments:

Put my Garmin on in transition. HR was way out of control. Wanted to use the first lap to get my HR back under control. As I exited the park I had a plan and was going to stick to it. Not long after exiting the park I noticed I had a terrible upset stomach, felt nauseated and bloated. I think I took in too much water on the swim. My bike seemed to go OK. My HR was finally getting back under control by the third lap. Course is a little hard to get HR down due to two good uphills and one that's a little easier. Drank one bottle of Perform. Tummy never did get feeling any better.

Comments:

Started out the run and knew right away my my tummy wasn't any better. Grabbed some water at the first aid station. Took off at a nice pace and my legs felt great. Didn't take long and I became nauseated again. I quickly realized that when my HR started to spike the nausea reared it's ugly head. Walked when my HR got too high. Ended up run/walking the rest of the run. Did run the last .5 miles with another guy from my age group. Beat him to the line by 1 second.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I feel like the swim hampered the rest of my race. Feel like I took in too much water which affected me the rest of the race. Was a little disapointed with my time but I happy to have the ability and support to go out and compete.
