Isn't that technically a "mankini"?

Actually, I was shopping for new jammers the other day and my wife "suggested" I get the speedo style instead.

I'm easy... not like they are any more revealing of the jewels than the jammers.

I don't blame your wife and don't get why jammers are so difficult for you. Seems the easy solution is jammers around the wife and speedo when she's not around. Ferris is the only exception to this rule because.... he is Ferris and I LOVE that he does not shave! LOL

My college roommate was a diver. He and his diver friends would wear the smallest speedos available I think. I never got it, but when you are the only one in a group who does not follow suit, you for sure feel like the one left out. I now do my swim training in a speedo.

From all the races I have done, there is always (AT LEAST) one guy who does the whole race in a speedo. Triathletes have no remorse.

I have to disagree.  Not many people can rock them well, but when I was a Freshman in Highschool I did a summer diving program with my best friend and there were two VERY hot Juniors that rocked speedo's on the diving team that were there for conditioning...and well, we weren't complaining, and even though the only thing I was any good at was the back dive, my bestie and I still enjoyed our summer. lol

True that. Lisa hates them. Hates briefs at all... I don't get that. But I comply anyway.

Oh, but I HATE briefs...gotta be boxer briefs.

Yep, I'm guilty too.  I swim everyday and find them a lot more comfortable and I don't have to put my legs through still damp jammers or tri suit the next day.

But honestly, go with what you like be it briefs, jammers, or baggies and quit worrying about what others think.    The only people at the pool that will have time to judge are usually the slow or beginning swimmers that should be focusing more on their workout.

I was wearing jammers but switched back to typical beach shorts. My reasoning: beach shorts have more resistance which will make me a stronger swimmer... isn't that the point of training?

My wife hates the dorky cycling tan lines more than she dislikes my speedo. So much so that she actually bought me a pretty small euro speedo to wear when we lounge by our backyard pool to get rid of those tan lines. Maybe one day I'll add picks to the "Show Me Your Suit" thread in COJ.

I always wear Speedo for training as jammers just always feel like they're falling off.

I'm hoping that's true! Hubby does his training in swim trunks, but will wear tri-shorts for the triathlon (and our open water swims.)

Get a drag suit.  It is just a baggier speedo, but hides the junk a bit better.

If it is true, why don't all the top female athletes wear beach shorts all the time when swim training?

Most likely the same reason male and female top athletes aren't always training on mountain bikes or road bikes with half flattened tires.  Don't get me wrong, resistance training has its place.

Something to ponder.

jillian_o - 2011-08-01 9:37 PM That's just plain funny. But seriously, I think all women have little apparel quirks. Me, I absolutely hate it, and can't stand it when I see men wearing flips flops, I think its an instant way to ruin a good outfit, and just looks hideous. When I see a man wearing flip flops the first thing I want to do after cringing is go up to them and stomp on their twinkle toes.

And no flip flops AND speedos---PLEASE!!!!!!   LOL!Surprised

I'm a lightweight.  I usually wear these Speedos

speedos

Ditto, and I get a kick out of telling people I swim in a Speedo.  Well, technically it's a Speedo, just not what they're thinking.

+3

Even walking out in those when the swim mothers are waiting poolside for their 4 yr old is interesting.

Quick answer: because what they wear to the beach is skimpier/less resistant than what they wear to training...

Let me get this right, you're going there to do training, not a fashion show right?

Speedo up with pride knowing you're training more than anyone else that takes the time to stop and look at what others are wearing.  Throw some trackie pants over them to and from the pool and your wife has no need to worry about others seeing you then.

Different story when relaxing on a beach though, boardies are the go then

There are a couple of tri's out here that have a "retro" division. No wetsuits. No disk wheels. No aero bars.

Extra points for rocking the speedo.

Retro division?  That is AWESOME.  It would be even better if you could only have down tube shifters!
