Pre-race routine:

Weird, racing on a work day. Took off a bit early and drove over to PDR. I'd seen these races way back in 04-05 and the thought of weeknight racing intrigued me, but it was one of those things I just never got around to, and then they stopped having them. This was the 10 year anniversary, and I think maybe the race's swan song?

Comments:

Course was out to a buoy, right turn, two buoys, around a jetty, and then in. There were 120+ folks in one big wave, so it was a bit crowded until the first buoy, but it opened up after that. I hit the first buoy pretty well, was swimming next to a pretty well known guy (runs the wednesday morning swims) so I knew my swim was good (but he wasn't wearing a suit :))

Looking forward, were swimming towards the jetty we were supposed to go around, but the buoy was way out to sea. The folks I was with were pretty far in shore. I decided (just like Alcatraz) to go out on my own and bee line it for the buoy. I thought I was all smart and was going to kick their asses. But no, there must have been an inshore current as they beat me to the buoy by 100 yards or so. son of a......

Couldn't catch any waves coming in

Comments:

Longish run up deep sand to transition. I run slow enough, don't have to add sand to make it worse. Right calf was cramping up the sand, and every time I tried to bend down to put my shoe on it fired.

Went sockless, but couldn't get all the sand off, was hoping it wouldn't hurt too bad.

Comments:

Good run course, two loops with the start/finish in the middle, so it was easy to break it up into pieces. Not my best 5K, by far. I got passed a ton and just felt, well, huge and slow. I see people run by me and I just can't fathom how they can run that fast. 11/12 in AG. Wow. that truly sucks

Saw Dolores and Gail out there, looking good.

One aid station at the start/finish

Event comments:

Fun local race, I'd love it if they had more. Neat way to break up the week. But that run just bums me out

Wow, that really brings back memories!

of your calf poor pookie. Anyhow, what a fantastic swim, as usual, nevermind not jumping on the feet of good people, eh, it's just a common mistake among us fish.

Really solid run, too. I was no fan of barefoot sand running until I just sucked it up and got a Labradog too young to run on concrete

Congrats!
