Age Group Rank = 2/?
Pre-race routine:

Had packed car night before
choked down a little yogurt & 1/2 piece cinn toast & a cup of coffee & drove to the school whwre there were only about 3 spaces left to park..
Pouring warm rain.
Event warmup:

rode bike to transition- set up & then swam to swim start & shivered until our last wave was called
Swim
  • 08m 2s
  • 880 yards
  • 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

fair amount of contact ( I still wont be elbowing & kicking ) backing out of that scene cost me a little time
we were told they were pulling in the buoy/shortemimg th course due to rough seas in the harbor
What would you do differently?:

actually for me this was a decent swim- I picked my line & picked some feet & even tho not a super steady rhythm.did settle into an actual freestyle stroke..just need to keep working on technique & speed (!)

Transition 1
  • 03m 18s
Comments:

This was one of the worst. Could not get the F"in wetsuit off my heels to save my life..incredibly frustrating..I need to drill on this!! Also should have skipped the sox they were soaked anyway from the rain

I actually ceded the race on this lousy transition..even tho its not about winning...I can do better ...THAT is just stupid
What would you do differently?:

I need to really work on this
Bike
  • 48m 13s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Maiden voyage for the tribike- the bars had dropped on me the day before in the course ride (!) so that was on my mind..and it was wet & raining..had to keep telling myself to trust the bike..First right turn comes after a good speed stretch, skidded a bit on the turn & got my HR up a bit with that "uhoh" pit in my stomach but managed to get out of it & move on. Really was curious to see what speed I could get on the new bike- was disappointed it was rainy & wet had to be more cautious..but served the purpose & I do think the new bike is going to help me have better bike splits once I get better at handling it & work more on gear changes....did not drink at all on bike..was trying to just keep pace up
What would you do differently?:

happy I was #1 in AG on bike-that was goal!
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

everything a soggy mess-lost my gel but felt ok going out on the run
What would you do differently?:

move a little quicker
Run
  • 25m 28s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

felt ok despite no nutrition or water on bike .Tried to just keep a steady pace & was able to pass the #3 person on an incline tho it did make me feel a bit queasy! Have been doing NO fast running so it felt very odd to try & run a 5K pace..
What would you do differently?:

?
Post race
Warm down:

chatted w 3rd AGer & we got some water, went right to transition & walked the stuff back to the car to put dry clothes on wet body..was freezing & soggy so didnt do usual stay at finish & cheer in this time..eventually came back for awards

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transitions were very rusty & slow
Weather put a bit of a "damper" on things!
Focusing on long course has definitely made running slower
New bike still in adaptation
Swimming still a big weakness

Event comments:

was on the fence about doing this race as focus is IM training..but glad I did.Was a good trial for the new bike & a good mix up from all the longer slower stuff I,ve been focusing on. Its a fun race with a good course and despite the weather had a good time.

Awesome race! Congrats on our bike pace and AG place. Rain is a tough way to test out the bike in a race. You should be very proud of yourself! Strong work!!
