Total Time = 1h 44m 29s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Athena 40+
Age Group Rank = 4/7
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:15 - stumbled to the kitchen poured myself a cup of ambition. Finished packing my bag ate most of my Odwalla bar on the way.
Event warmup:

Fun to see so many familiar faces at this race. Swam about 150 with Karen.
Swim
  • 11m 32s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

There was a line of women in front and then 4 feet with nobody so I got behind the fast girls 4-5 feet behind start buoys. The count down started and when they got to 2 I was already horizontal and moving forward. The first 200 or so was pretty skate - very little contact. Then I started catching all the pinks, then the oranges and one poor gal in a green cap before I finished.
What would you do differently?:

Find the exit faster. I had a hard time figuring out where to go.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Had to run the length of transition, took a sec to get some of the grass and muck off my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster
Bike
  • 42m 50s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.61 mile/hr
Comments:

This is the hardest I have gone on the bike, was pooping out a bit at the end. Had to stop pedaling a few times because the course was so crowded with too many riders and not enough room to pass.
What would you do differently?:

Go hard the last 2 miles, stop trying to 'save' myself for what is going to be a crappy run no matter what.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

They lumped my T2 with my run so this time is a guess. I racked my bike and had to go under the bar to get to my stuff, not good.
What would you do differently?:

Think
Run
  • 46m 29s
  • 3.65 miles
  • 12m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out with a bad calf cramp about .5 out of transition I had to stop and strech out so my pace was WAY off from the get go.
There was ICE on the course in August which is AMAZING and I appreciate SO much! The sponges were also AWESOME! There was a bigger gap between 2 of the water stations than I would have liked. I wasn't really thirsty but my mouth/lips were dry.
I hit a wall around 3.2, the mantra went away and the mental game was over. Lots of folks walking and I wasn't going much faster so I caved. Finished strong but I am very unhappy with this run.
What would you do differently?:

Run
Post race
Warm down:

Got my towel, water, medal and got in the ice bath which was lovely. Got my shirt which is great! Then I went back to the finish to wait for Karen.
Saw the results (Merry showed me) and although I was happy to get 1st in the swim for 40+ Athena's I am kicking myself for that 1:03, I should have had it.
Got a Coke and went to the Cy-Tri tent for a little visit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure if going harder on the bike = cramp & wall or if my tri runs are always going to suck no matter how hard I go on the bike.

Event comments:

OUM puts on a great race and I am really hoping they get the timing thing together to do themselves next year. I would like to see races start on time. We all know when our wave starts - get there on time people and maybe the timing issues won't be such an issue.

More bricks?

Sorry I missed you at the tent.  My daughters were driving me nuts.

Good job and nice speed.  That run was killer.

I thought the delay had more to do with them messing with the speaker system than with the line to get into transition.  Not that I wasn't guilty of getting there with only 30 mins to spare for transition.

Great swim honey.  Good race overall.  I'd gladly take the 1:04 you needed to place added to my time.  I think we might both need more bricks in our training.

Great race Keri!
Could have been a little too hard on the bike but it could have been the heat too!

Nice job on the race.  It's hard enough to run in the heat, let alone throw a swim and a bike there.  You had a really good swiim and very solid bike.  Much to be proud of
