Pre-race routine:

Joking and skipping around with my friend and our ladies. I was pretty laid back the entire time. Great race atmosphere. I went for a little swim beforehand to test out my goggles and wetsuit as it was the first time I was doing an open water tri
Event warmup:

(see above)
Swim
  • 17m 46s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

First open water swim tri. Wetsuit wasn't necessary, but I wanted to practice using it. There was no current as it was in a lake. Thought it went pretty well. Wetsuit reallly does make a differenct and does improve performance. Sighting to the turnaround buoy was no problem. Sighting on the way back was questionable but I was able to draft some good swimmers. Didn't push myself too hard. Running out of the water was tiring, though.
What would you do differently?:

Swim as far to the shor as possible. Running was tiring.
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

I really took my time in the transitions. For some reason I was not stressing and felt laid back the entire race.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push it a bit. But I'm content.
Bike
  • 56m 37s
  • 16 miles
  • 16.96 mile/hr
Comments:

I read the hill on this course was challenging, and they were right. I have been biking a lot on hilly routes and, I guess, was somewhat prepared for it. I thought it was very challenging with the steep downhill then climb immediately afterwards. My GPS said it was a 600 ft. climb in 2 miles. The roads were very bumpy, and it started to hurt my bum. I think there were only 1 or 2 cyclists that passed me during the entire ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Again, I took my sweet ass time. I wiped my feet, then put my shoes and socks on.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little more powerade...
Run
  • 22m 23s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Thought I'd would have more difficulty running after the bike. My legs seemed dead. But according to the time, I did alright. But I really don't think the run was a full 3 miles cause I've never ran that fast in my life. I hate running.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Cheered on other athletes because the crowd was pretty quiet...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My casual, laid back attitude. Sorry if I enjoy myself too much.

Event comments:

Great race and organization. I really didn't stick around for any post race activities cause the rain started coming down and I was hungry. Will definitely do again next year.
