Total Time = 1h 41m 16s
Overall Rank = 375/971
Age Group = F65-69
Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

Nevis tri Saturday am - skipped awards so I could get down to Cities to pick up my packet by 4pm. Drove the bike course and figured out where to park in am. Had a heck of a time getting to my hotel because my Tom-Tom wanted me to take 494 which was closed. Discovered I could pick alternative route and skip 494 which worked great. Had to clean and repack stuff from Nevis.
In am, got to race site about 6am, parked on Cedar, didn't have to walk far. Drank G2 until 7am. I was at end of rack so put my stuff outside the end but had to move it because against the rules.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 12m 15s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was in 12th wave. Had GU and water 15" before start. I knew there were a lot of newbies here so decided to not start way in back as I usually do. I also decided to hug the buoy line instead of going wide because a lot of the other swimmers seemed to be going wide. Swim was ok - crowded but bumping wasn't awful. Passed several people from the earlier wave which I never normally do.
Lake Nokomis is pretty gross - can't see anything - maybe that's a good thing.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really
Transition 1
  • 04m 6s
Comments:

Trouble with wetsuit and long jog to "bike out"
Bike
  • 53m 37s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 17.35 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a very flat, closed course. I thought I would have great speed but since I was in a late wave, I spent a lot of time and energy maneuvering past other bikers.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Gu and water
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 28m 44s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I have a new sprint run strategy which I tried out at Nevis the day before and then here. I no longer worry about pacing - I just go out hard even if it means I have to walk a bit towards the end. It seems to work because I had a tri run pr at Nevis and my 2nd best run here.
Run was crowded with people abreast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

GREAT post-race food. Close enough to car to go change before transition opened again. Got Luna bars from mnrunnergirl (boy, is she tiny).
In T2, another woman in my age group was leaving as I came in, and I didn't think I passed her on the run, so I was totally shocked at awards when I got age group 1st place. I asked her "What happened", and she said she had "intestinal issues" and had to run in the bushes. I said I was sorry and she said "That's the way it goes - anything can happen".
Got an ipod shuffle and a Best Buy $25 certificate.
Was nice to see quite a few "name" racers showed up. Boy, that Claire is something.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Crowded field and tri the day before

Event comments:

I thought the race was very well organized and very fun and I'm glad I did it but probably won't be back. Too crowded for late wave racers and Nokomis water is gross.
