Overcast
Total Time = 1h 51m 50s
Overall Rank = 143/224
Age Group = 35 - 39
Age Group Rank = 0/9
Pre-race routine:

Had a typical breakfast and headed out to the race. Although somehow my bib fell out of my bag in the living room. Wasn't a big deal but when I couldn't find it I got a litte anxious.
Event warmup:

Are you suppose to warm up for these?
Swim
  • 21m 58s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was great. I felt strong throughout the whole swim. I am disappointed in my time considering how good I felt. The course looked long to just about everybody on shore before the race and this proved to be true. Looking at the winners swim times they were about 20 - 30 seconds slower than 2009. 2010 weather was awful and extremely choppy.
What would you do differently?:

Keep swimming.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

Better than most of my previous transitions.
Bike
  • 51m 48s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I am very happy with this ride. I took off over 8 minutes from my time last year on this course. Wind conditions were similar so I feel pretty good that it is a good comparison. I was pushing pretty good, and the hills still killed me. The course did not feel as hard as it did last year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Need to keep improving.
Run
  • 33m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I am ok with this run, it is about right for what I am capable of right now. It was 30 sec per mile faster than last year.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn how to push my self earlier during 5K both in Tris and stand-alone. I have been getting faster with each mile but the first is always too slow to get me under 30 minutes.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit, and drank abunch of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have put on some weight in July and August. I need to get that off plus some more. I am finding that easier said than done. Too many cook-out and parties during the summer.

Event comments:

I was really excited about my time, over 10 minutes faster than last year. While I was only 8/9 in AG the AG was pretty competitive compared to other races I have been in.
Second time doing the race and I will be back. I only wish the labeled Bike racks as it was a pain having athletes try to squeeze bike in.

Awesome race Charlie.  That's a huge jump from last year!

Swim distances in sprints are all over the map, even from year to year in the same event, so that's no surprise.  Just keep swimming and judge your efforts accordingly.  I love that the bike is feeling easier and hills are always the litmus test.  Looks like a great effort, and negatively splitting every mile on the run after a tough bike is impressive pacing.  Keep it up and next year knock off a few more minutes!
